From The Knoxville News Sentinel 13 Aug 2004 BURNETT, LUCILLE WATKINS - 83, died August 11 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge having passed rather quickly after a major stroke. Lucille was born July 17, 1921, the daughter of William Bernard and Lillian Gertrude Watkins of Strugis, Kentucky. She graduated from Louisville Girl's High School and attend Nazareth College, Louisville. She married Thomas Joseph Burnett on June 1, 1942 at S. Philip Neri Church in Louisville, Kentucky. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1992 with their nine children, numerous grandchildren and many friends. Lucy and Tom moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee in the 1940's and lived out their lives amongst the beautiful hills and valleys of that town. Lucille was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a past president of the Catholic Women's Club and a member of Church Women United. She gave generously of her time to numerous charitable organizations including Fish and Meals on Wheels. She and Tom enjoyed both square and round dancing for many years. Lucille's other interests included painting and her prize-winning work was exhibited locally. She greatly enjoyed her membership in the Arty Party. She also loved to garden and to sew and made a number of beautiful quilts, some of which have been auctioned off for charity. Lucy is survived by her nine children; eleven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 13th at Martin Funeral Home in Oak Ridge from 6:30- 8:60 p.m. with a Rosary immediately following in the Chapel. A memorial Mass and Wake will be celebrated at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday, August 14th.
