From The Knoxville News Sentinel 28 Aug 2004 ACRES, MILFORD F. - age 101 of Oneida, NEWPORT, PEARL MADLYNNE age, 78 of Oneida, Tennessee PROSISE, SUE PAULINE - age 84, of Briceville ACRES, MILFORD F. - age 101 of Oneida, passed away Thursday morning, August 26, 2004 at the Scott County Hospital. Born November 12, 1902 in Oneida, he is the son of the late, Rev. Rhodes and Bertha Reed Acres. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Eva Mays Acres; grandson, Terry Acres; brothers, Audney Acres and wife, Thelma, Silas Acres and wife, Sadie, Alton Acres, Lloyd Acres; sisters, Linnie Jones and husband, Benton and Loma Tompkins; son in law, Howard "Buddy" Davis. Mr. Acres spent 35 years as a railroad employee and was a steam engine locomotive engineer on the Oneida and Western Railroad when the railroad ceased to operate. He was the employed in the maintenance department of Streetman Bakery in Macon, GA. for 21 years before returning to Oneida. He is also remembered for his craftsmanship in making and repairing clocks. Milford and Eva were active for many years in the West Oneida Baptist Church and after returning from Ga., they attended worship services at the First Baptist Church of Oneida where he was a member. He is survived by sons, Hoit Acres and wife, Mary Lou of Louisville, Ky. and Hoyal Acres and wife, Joan of Vonore, Tenn.; daughters, Joyce Davis of Warner Robins, Ga., Billie Trammell and husband, Tom and Shirley Jeffers and husband, Harold both of Oneida; sister, Eva Davis and husband, Joe; brother, Argie Acres and wife, Lenora; sisters in law, Ollie Acres and Artie Acres; brother in law, Ovid Tompkins; 10 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday evening August 29, 2004 in the chapel of Jones and Son Funeral Home with the Dr. Doug White, Rev. Phillip Kazee and Rev. Dale Smith officiating. Burial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday August 30, 2004 at Hazel Valley Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening August 29, 2004 from 6 p.m. until time for services at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Jones and Son Funeral Home. Jones and Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Milford F. Acres. NEWPORT, PEARL MADLYNNE age, 78 of Oneida, Tennessee, departed this life on Wednesday afternoon, August 25, 2004 at the home of her daughter in Knoxville, Tennessee. Born on August 8, 1926 and was the daughter of the late Doc Duncan and Della Litton Duncan. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Doc Duncan and Della Litton Duncan; husband of fifty-four years, Clifton Newport; daughter, Zondria Kay Martin; son, George Anthony Duncan; three sisters, Lola Duncan Marcum, Hazel Duncan and Opal Duncan; brother, D.T. Duncan. She is survived by: two daughters, Elizabeth Phillips of Knoxville, Tennessee, Erma Laxton and husband Mike of Hurricane, West Virginia; one son, Jerry Newport and wife Debbie of Robbins, Tennessee; four granddaughters, Tammy Phillips, Amanda Duncan, Ashley Martin and Cheyenne Newport; four grandsons, Jared Laxton, Shane Martin, Jody Martin and Tyler Martin; four great grandchildren; two special family members, Donda Duncan and Kenneth Martin; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday evening, August 28, 2004 from 6 until 8 p.m. in the Chapel of West Murley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. with Rev. Joe Blevins officiating. Special music provided by the Goad Family. Interment in the Carson Memorial on Sunday afternoon, August 29, 2004 at 2 p.m. West Murley Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements for Pearl Madlynne Newport. PROSISE, SUE PAULINE - age 84, of Briceville passed away Friday, August 27, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center. She was a member of Laurel Branch Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents, Rouden & Lillie Duncan White; husband, Jasper S. Prosise & sister, Lucille Fox. Sue was born December 4, 1914 in Anderson County. Survivors: sons, Gary Prosise & wife Kathy of Briceville, Ricky Prosise & wife Theresa of Briceville, Joey Prosise of Medford Community in Lake City, Mickey Prosise of Clear Branch Community in Lake City; daughters, Sharon Nancy & husband Rodger of Oak Grove Community in Lake City, Becky Wilson & husband Abe of Medford Community in Lake City, Debbie Seiber & husband J.D. of Medford Community in Lake City; grandchildren, Stacey Burnett, Yancy Prosise, Heather Lamuer, Adam Wilson, Kevin Prosise, Lisa Prosise, Dustin Wilson, Michael Prosise, Courtney Prosise, Brandon Prosise, Samantha Prosise, Amanda Prosise & Nikki Prosise; 14 great grandchildren; brother, Roud White; sisters, Anna Lee Housley, Charlcie Miles, Violet Flynn, Ruth Collins, Ralphine Sisco; several nieces & nephews. The family will receive friends 6:00- 8:00 PM, Sunday, August 29, 2004 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City. The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Monday in the chapel with Rev. Houston Carrol & Rev. Tim Russell officiating. The burial will follow at Circle Cemetery.
