From The Oak Ridger 10 Aug 2004 Virgil Eugene Bean, 50, of Knoxville, Vernon Gaston Moore, 86, of Knoxville, Orin Walter Sykes, 77, of Oak Ridge, Andrew Chester "Mac" Wright, 79, of Knoxville, Virgil Eugene Bean, 50, of Knoxville, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at his brother's home. Born July 8, 1954, in Anderson County, he was the son of Kenneth and Arettia Bean of Clinton. He was preceded in death by his son, Virgil Eugene Bean Jr., and a brother, Billy Joe Bean. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bean is survived by two sons, Clifford Bean and Harley Bean; and a daughter, Wendy Hensley and husband, Daniel, all of New Mexico. He is also survived by brothers, Kenneth Bean and wife, Katie, of Oliver Springs, Clyde Bean and husband, Tina, of Metrietta, La.; a sister, Arettia Wayne and husband, Eric, of Dandridge; two grandsons, Cody Hensley and Kevin Hensley, a granddaughter and by several nieces and nephews and special friends, Glenda, Melinda, Megan and Robin. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. David Travis officiating. A graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at Anderson Memorial Park, Oliver Springs Highway. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Vernon Gaston Moore, 86, of Knoxville, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004. He was an engineer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and an avid fisherman on Tennessee lakes, a gardener and a lapidarist. Mr. Moore is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen Louise May Moore; a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Laurel M. Adams and Robert L. Adams of Huntington, N.Y.; and by a grandson, Robert H. Adams of Longmont, Colo. According to the family, friends and loved ones may call on Helen Moore at Homewood Independent Living, 401 Catherine McAuley Way, Knoxville. Orin Walter Sykes, 77, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Sykes retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Division and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, he enjoyed reading, carpentry and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Lucinda Sykes of Meridian, Miss., and by two brothers and a sister. Mr. Sykes is survived by his wife, Ethel Sykes; four sons, James Davidson and wife, Karla, and Otto Sykes, all of Oak Ridge, Bernard Sykes of Hartford, Conn., and Ricky Sykes of West Haven, Conn.; and four daughters, Robin Johnson and Tracy Sykes, both of Oak Ridge, Chioma Adaku-Griffin and husband, Jarvis, of Murfreesboro, and Sandra Burum and husband, Marvin, of Powell. He is also survived by three brothers, Robert Sykes of Newark, N.J., Billie Sykes and wife, Ollie, of Meridian, and James Sykes and wife, Naiomi, of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Henrietta Johnson of Granada, Miss; 11 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including Minnie Thompson of Oak Ridge; and by several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and other relatives. George Lester and Beatrice Davis, both of Oak Ridge, and Frank Harris of California are considered special friends, and Mike Agyemang of Oak Ridge is his godson. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at True Light Missionary Baptist Church, 3229 George Light Road, Solway community, with Elder Darris Waters officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Unity Mortuary in Knoxville is in charge of arrangements. Andrew Chester "Mac" Wright, 79, of Knoxville, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at his home. Born Sept. 12, 1924, in Knoxville, he was the son of Joseph Henry and Kitty Wright. Mr. Wright retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems, having worked at the Y-12 Plant as a process operator. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and the Cedar Hill Golf Club in Lenoir City, where he was an avid golfer. Mr. Wright is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Teffeteller Wright; a son, Larry Wright and his wife, Libby, of Knoxville; sisters, Jewell Baker of Maryville and Helen Keller of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Tricia Porter of Charlotte, N.C., and Kerry Anthony of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and by a great granddaughter, Sara Anthony of Chapel Hill. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Bobby Mullins officiating. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
