    2. From The Oak Ridger 5 Aug 2004 Marie J. Davis, 80, of Oak Ridge Virginia Mae Lassen, 85, of Oak Ridge, Herbert Dickinson, of Oak Ridge, Marie J. Davis, 80, of Oak Ridge died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Aug. 16, 1923, in Selma, Ala., she was the daughter of John Henry and Nannie Jackson. Known affectionately as "Dut," she was the widow of Marvin Davis. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her family. She was a member of Oak Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother, Rose Mary Nichols, Margaret Powell and Roosevelt Jackson. Mrs. Davis is survived by two sons, Terry S. Davis and Mark S. Davis, both of Oak Ridge; a grandson, Markie of Oak Ridge; her sister, Ola Toddle of Detroit, Mich., a very special friend, R.L. Ayers of Oak Ridge; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. The funeral was held Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at Oak Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Hardil Thomas officiating. Unity Mortuary, 1425 McCalla Ave., Knoxville, was in charge of arrangements. Virginia Mae Lassen, 85, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at Briarcliff Health Care Center. She was born Feb. 9, 1919, in Brookings, S.D., the daughter of Carl and Tena Lunden Trygstad. She was the granddaughter of Martin Trygstad, a Norwegian immigrant who became a South Dakota legislator during the time that South Dakota changed from a territory into a state. She was keenly interested in politics all her life. She was also interested in child development and served as a volunteer for the Children's Museum of Oak Ridge. Mrs. Lassen was very active in Grace Lutheran Church and its ministries. According to her family, she cherished her Grace Lutheran Church family, which sustained and nourished her with unflagging support. She had a funny sense of humor and raised five musical children who shared her exaggerated appreciation of the ridiculous. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Louis Lassen, who died Oct. 18, 1999. Mrs. Lassen is survived by three sons, Mark Andrew Lassen, Erick Stephen Lassen and James Edward Lassen; two daughters, Janet Louise Ciano and Ruth Ann Gage; a sister, Jo Smith; and by 28 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Stephen Damos officiating. A reception will follow. A private burial will be held at a later date at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Music Ministry of Grace Lutheran Church, 131 W. Gettysburg Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Herbert Dickinson, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge.
