He was born Sept. 21, 1989 in Knox County. He was a member of the St. Therese Catholic Church. He loved fishing, riding motorcycles, driving cars, building model cars and monster trucks. He was preceded in death by his great grandmother, Mae Lou Niner. He is survived by his father, John Scott Adkins, Sr., Claxton; mother, Lucinda Mae Hicks Adkins, Claxton; sisters, Carol Lynn Adkins, Claxton, Rachell Barnette, Oliver Springs; brother, Bruce Barnette, Oliver Springs; grandparents, Larry and Sandy Hicks, Claxton, Tom and Barbara Adkins, Oak Ridge; great grandfather, Sylvester Niner, Sr., Claxton; uncles, Christopher Hicks, Knoxville, Ron Trentham, Knoxville, Tommy Adkins, Lexington, KY, Jimmy Adkins, Sanford, FL, Charles Adkins, Knoxville; great uncle and aunt, J.R. and Peggy Niner, Claxton; nieces, Alexis Barnette and Candace Barnette; nephews, Bruce Barnette and Ryan Barnette. Funeral mass was Aug. 4 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Clinton with Father Bill McKenzie officiating. Interment was in the Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton. Raymond Leon Byrge, age 78 of Moraine, OH, formerly of Caryville, died July 19 at Hospice of Dayton. He was a member of Moraine City Baptist Church. He retired from Chrysler Airtemp after 30 years of service, and was an US Army veteran of World War II, a lifelong member of the Caryville Lodge NO. 665, F&A Masons, and an employee of David Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Edith Byrge; sisters, Betty (Harry) Cunningham and Mary Frances Kasrich. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Mary McGhee Byrge; sister, Louise (Jerry) Price; sons, Jimmy (Nancy) Byrge, Donald (Patricia) Byrge, and Larry Byrge; daughter, Judy (Wayne) Gentry; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were July 22 at the Newcomer Farley Funeral Home. Interment followed in David Cemetery. Newcomer Farley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Thelma Juanita Bray, age 74 of Williamsburg, KY died July 25 at her home. She is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Gail Christian and husband, Charles, Williamsburg, KY, Lisa Wallace and husband, Terry, Williamsburg, KY, Barbara Cupp and husband, Rev. Troy Cupp, Black Oak, KY; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; brother, Donald Ayers, Lawrenceburg; sisters, Mae Silcox, Jellico and Bessie White, River View, MI; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were July 27 at Harp Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Woods officiating. Interment was in the Douglas (Sunny Hill) Cemetery. Harp Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Roxie Ann Chumley Bussell, age 84, of Speedwell died July 24 at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. She was born Feb. 15, 1920 in Claiborne County. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she was saved at an early age. She loved to sew and fish. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Ada Bussell Chumley; husband, Clayton Bussell; sons, William and Jerry Bussell; brothers, Curt and Jim Chumley; sister, Lena Treadway; grandsons, Paul "Doc" Bussell and Richard Brantley, Jr. She is survived by her son, Paul "Doc"(Wilma) Bussell, Sr., Harrogate; daughters, Helen Mayfield, Lexington, Ann(Richard) Brantley, Speedwell; grandchildren, Cassandra Bussell, Alan Mayfield, Cynthia Allen, Jennifer Brantley, Erica Hopper, Shannon Bussell; great grandchildren, Jacob, Johnathan, Alyssa, Jack, Eric, Chris, Phillip, Hanna, Jacob; great-great grandson, Bradley. Funeral services were July 26 at Reece Funeral Home and Valley Chapel with Rev. John Gibbons officiating. Music was by Merrill Womack. Interment was in the Chumley Cemetery. Pallbearers were Alan Mayfield, Phillip Bussell, Benton Estes, Kenny and Lynn Treece and Jack Wylie. Honorary Pallbearers were Richard Brantley and Jack Hopper. Reece Funeral Home and Valley Chapel was in charge of the arrangements. Michael Jay Copley, son of James Copley and Alta (Ridinger) Miller, was born October 3, 1953 at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. Mike entered the U.S. Army in 1971. For his dedicated and honorable service, he received the Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th Award), Gold Recruiter Badge, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Driver Mechanic Badge, Expert Qualification Badge .45 Cal Pistol and the Sharpshooter Qualification Badge M-16 Rifle. First Sergeant Copley retired from the military in 1995 after 24 years of service to his country. After his retirement, Mike continued working for the government as a Field Service Representative for Butler International, based in Milpitas, California. Mike made his home in Plato, Missouri. On September 12, 1981, in Walthersville, Georgia, Mike was united in marriage with Paulette Mary (Fields) Hofmann. Mike and Paulette shared nearly 23 years of marriage and seven sons. Mike departed this life July 19, 2004 as the result of injuries sustained in a mortar attack while working in Iraq, at the age of 50 years, 9 months and 17 days. Mike was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help others. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Paulette of the home; seven sons: William Hofmann of Hinesville, GA, Brandon Hofmann of Savannah, GA, Benjamin Copley of Knoxville, TN, Michael Copley of Big Piney, MO and Justin, Jason and Christopher Copley all of Plato, MO; his father: James Copley of Cincinnati, OH; his mother: Alta Miller of LaFollette, TN; four grandchildren: Andre Hofmann, Justus Hofmann, Kara Copley and Avery Hofmann and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were July 27 at Soldier's Memorial Chapel at Fort Leonard Wood with Chaplain (CPT) Kelly Porter officiating. Other speakers included David Ingalls, Roy Colvard, Gary Rivers, LTC (Ret) Lou Best, Terry Key and Destiny Mikulic. Soloist, Becky Lercher sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace" and was accompanied by Pianist, Joung Ok Lee Burial with military honors followed in the Palace Cemetery near Evening Shade. Honors were provided by the U.S. Army at Fort Leonard Wood with MAJ Diane Cummins-Lefler presenting the flag. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel. Alfred James "Jim" Daugherty, age 71, of Lake City died Aug. 1 at St. Mary's Medical Center of Knoxville. He was a member of New Canaan Baptist Church. He enjoyed C.B and ham radio, fishing, and raising his garden. He also enjoyed his church family. He was in the Korean Conflict. He was preceded death by his parents, Hugh and Stella Allen Daugherty; brothers, Hughene, Charles D. and Rasher B. Daugherty. He is survived by his wife, Janet Daugherty of Lake City; children, Eddie and Elaine Orick of Clinton, Bob and Nadine Daugherty of Xenia, OH, Anna Stogner, Judy Nelson, and Jimmy and Tana Daugherty all of Caryville, Jennifer and Eddie Carroll of LaFollette, Johnny and Tyrine Hawthorne of Lake City; and Hope Byrge of Jacksboro; sisters, Magdeline Orick, Martha Archer, and Belle Lee all of LaFollette, Mary Woods of Norris; special friend and cousin, Bill Phillips of LaFollette; 19 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and host of other relatives and friends. She is survived by her sons, Marvin Douglas, Jack Douglas, both of Jellico, Jerry Douglas, Columbus, Oh; daughter, Dessie Johnson, Jellico; brother, Bobby Elliott, Knoxville; sisters, Ethel Boshears, Nellie Smiddy and Thelma Elliott, all of Jellico. Funeral services were Aug. 1 at the Cox and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerome Walden and Ray Landes officiating. Interment was in the Huddleston Cemetery. Cox and Son Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Wilma Jean Durham, age 56 of Oak Ridge died July 31 at her home. She attended Mountain Ash Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sillis Durham; parents, Everett and Georgia Mae Wilburn Lay; brother H.D. Lay. She is survived by her children, Jason Durham and Jennifer Sharp both of LaFollette; brothers, Arvil Lay of Oneida and Everett Lay Jr. of Clinton; sisters, Joyce Padgett and Jewell Rose of LaFollette, Rose Mary Terry of Clinton; best friend, Shirley Kidwell of Clinton; several nieces and nephews and host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Services were Aug. 3 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Graham officiating. Interment was in Hall Cemetery. She was a long time member of Grantsboro Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Gaylor; parents, Thomas and Ann Dagley; brothers, Bill, Fletcher, Fred, Jim, Ferris, Condy Dagl ey and sister, Minnie. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Cleda Parrott, Mary, Ermine Dagley; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Gaylor; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends; several special friends who were helpful and very close to her. Martin Wilson Funeral Home of LaFollette was in charge of the arrangements. Marvin Lee Gibson, age 61, of LaFollette died July 28 at his home. He was a retired U.S. Marine, having served in the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Edith (Henson) Gibson; brother, Stanley Gibson; sister, Helen Miller. Survivors include his sons, Mack Gibson, Eric Gibson and Marvin Lee Gibson, Jr., all of Florida; brothers, Dennis Gibson, Fla., David Gibson, Maryland; sisters, Judy Bankart, Maryland, Carolyn Andrade, Fla.; seven grandchildren. Funeral services were July 31 at Cross Chapel with Rev. Lynn Ray officiating. Interment was in the Powell Valley Cemetery with Military Honors by the Campbell County Honor Guard. Barbara "Jeannie" Hatfield, age 64, of Jacksboro departed this life from her home to be with the Lord Jesus 6:30 p.m., Aug. 2 after a long illness. She was a member of Glade Springs Baptist Church. She had a deep love for her family and a love for everybody she met, but she had a desire to go home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Vickie Lynn Hatfield; mother, Mary Dean Caddell. She is survived by her husband, JP Hatfield; daughter, Linda Halcomb and husband, Dennis all of LaFollette; grandchildren, Brian Hatmaker and Wife, Amanda, Jennifer Hammitte and husband, Arlie; great grandchildren, Lindsay Nicole Hammite and Kateline Marie Hatmaker; father, Paris Caddell of LaFollette; sister, Mary Elizabeth Maples of LaFollette; brothers, Clifford and Carl Caddell of LaFollette, Kyle Caddell of Murfreesboro; special nieces and nephews, several sisters-in-law and a host of relatives and friends. Janice "Jackie" Hutson, age 43 of Caryville died Aug. 1 at her home. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Caryville. She was a NASCAR fan, her favorite driver was Dale Earnhart, Jr. She also enjoyed fishing. Ward Jones, age 65, of Clinton died July 29 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was born Dec. 28, 1938 in Campbell County to the late Heiskell and Elizabeth Braden Ward. She was of the Baptist faith. She loved flea marketing, horse racing and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, George Jones. She was survived by her son, Rickey Jones, Clinton; brothers, Clayton Ward, Clinton, Virgil Ward, Caryville, Earnest Ward, Clinton; sister, Alice Fugate, Chicago, Il; grandchildren, David Jones, Clinton, Michael Jones, Chicago, Il, Brianna Jones, Clinton. Gerald Roy Lemons, age 35, of Clinton went home to be with the Lord on July 29. He was the general manager of Window Craft in Knoxville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was an ordained minister of Southern Baptist Faith and was an outstanding college student of America in 1992. He is survived by his wife, Deanna Lemons, Clinton; son, Ryan Lemons, Clinton, daughter, Bethany Lemons, Clinton; parents, Roy and Carol Lemons, Roanoke, VA; mother and father-in-law, Burgin and Pat Housley of Jacksboro; brother, Kevin and wife, Amy Lemons of Basset, VA; sister, Leann Frith and husband, Chuck of Rocky Mountain, VA; several nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends. Anna Reynolds, age 89 of LaFollette, died July 31 at St. Mary's Health and Rehab Center in LaFollette. She was a member of the Lick Creek Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Reynolds; daughters, Wanda Moore and Margie Sue Reynolds; parents, Harrison and Nancy Ayers; brother, Thomas Lee Ayers. She is survived by her sons, Wm. L.C. Thomas Walter Russell, age 63, of Knoxville died July 30 at the U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville. He was of the Protestant Faith. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed dealing in real estate, football and was the Army Middleweight Champion in boxing. He was a Veteran of the US Army. He was preceded in death by his father, Horace Maynard Russell; brothers, Lester and Roy Russell.
