    2. From The Oak Ridgfer 26 Aug 2004 Elnora M. Benton, 71, of Powell, Alene Coker, 82, of Coalfield, Ruby L. Kitchings, 81, of Kingston, Norman D. Rathbone, 79, Elnora M. Benton, 71, of Powell, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Benton. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dan Benton, of Andesonville, and Mark and Pam Benton, of Oliver Springs; daughters, Cheryl Benton, of Illinois, Carolyn Benton, of New Mexico and Mary Benton, of Clinton; grandchildren, Brandy Benton, Logan Benton, Chris Benton, Mark Benton Jr., Jacob Smith, Wayne Wilder, Ravyn Wilder; step-grandchildren, April and Jada Allen; sister, Betty Thorpe, of Colorado; special friends, Maggie Murray, Ruby Schlandt and Emma Seymore; and many friends of Poplar Creek Baptist Church. The service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at Woodhaven Funeral Home in Claxton. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Alene Coker, 82, of Coalfield, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Coker; parents, Arthur and Martha (Davis) Metrogen; two sisters and one brother. She is survived by sons, Roger Coker and wife, Gail, of Coalfield, Ronnie Jackson, of Oak Ridge, Sammy Jackson and wife, Sandy, of Indiana; grandchildren, Lee Coker and fiancee, Amanda Logan, April West and husband, Allen, Lee Ann Bedford and husband, Wayne, Ronnie Jackson, Tommy Jackson, Donna Jackson, Jeff Jackson and Lisa Gail Jackson; great-grandchildren, Derrick, Haley, Victoria and Layne; sister, June Linder, of Lafayette, Ind.; brothers, Maurice Metrogen, of Destin, Fla. and John Metrogen of Sacremento, Calif.; and many other family members and friends. The funeral will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, with Don Daugherty officiating. The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Estes Cemetery in Coalfied. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg. Ruby L. Kitchings, 81, of Kingston, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at Roane Medical Center after a long illness. She was very active in voluntary missions and in the United Methodist Women Oak Ridge District and Conference. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and two brothers. She is survived by her husband, Warren C. Kitchings; son and daughter-in-law, Ashley and Elizabeth Holt; brothers and sister-in-law, Joe and Jackie Haggard, and Hubert Wilson; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at Bradbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Markwood and the Rev. Walter Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Kingston Memorial Gardens. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Bradbury United Methodist Church Parsonage Fund, 3506 Buttermilk Road, Kingston, TN 37763. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston. Norman D. Rathbone, 79, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, with his family by his side. Born Nov. 26, 1924, in Pine Grove, W. Va., he attended West Virginia University before going to work at the Union Carbide Institute plant in Charleston, W. Va. He transferred to K-25 in 1944 where he was made foreman, May 28, 1945. At the time of his retirement in 1984, Mr. Rathbone was shift superintendent at K-25. Mr. Rathbone was an avid fisherman, making his second home at Hickory Star Campground and Marina. He loved to play pool, snooker, at the Oak Ridge Senior Center. In earlier years, he bowled on the K-25 bowling team and played baseball on the Union Carbide team. He and Madelyn Rathbone, who was his high school sweetheart, graduated from Pine Grove High School before coming to Oak Ridge where they were married in the present home Aug. 19, 1944. They celebrated their 60th anniversary last week with their family. Mr. Rathbone was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas J. and Beatrice Rathbone, who came to Oak Ridge in 1944 with Union Carbide from Pine Grove. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Barbara Darnell and husband, Andy, and Norma Ilar and husband, Jim, of Clinton, Nancy Butler and husband, David, of Claxton, and Jamie Jamison, of Nashville; his grandchildren, Jessica McGhee and husband, Dustin, of Powell, Joy McGhee and husband, Jason, Jennifer Lloyd and husband, Michael, and Whitni Duncan and husband, Tommy, all of Clinton, and Jim Ilar and wife, Kristi, of Oak Ridge; his great-grandchildren, Molli, Emmalee, Lenzi and Sarah Ilar, of Oak Ridge, Joshua Lloyd, of Clinton, and Brandon McGhee, of Powell. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Mack Smith officiating. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 at Grandview Cemetery in Clinton. Wayne Ball, James Sears, Steve Price will Bill Maddux, W.T. Norhtcutt and Joe Dykstra will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the American Diabetes Association, Attn: ADA Web, P.O. Box 1833, Merrifield, Va., 22116, or the American Heart Association, Anderson County Unit, P.O. Box 6014, Oak Ridge, TN 37831.
