Nelson age 56, A native of LaFollette, Preston David Presley Martha Carolyn Russell, age 81 of Jacksboro Artie H. Smith, age 92 of Clinton Genevie Nikeo Smith, age 53 of LaFollette Bertha Hill Simpson Tharpe, age 96 of Knoxville Bonnie Carroll White, age 83 of LaFollette Caroline Summitt Francis, long-time resident of LaFollette and Marietta, GA died Oct. 6 of complications from chronic renal failure and Alzheimer disease at the home of her son in DeKalb County, GA. She was born June 23, 1921 in her parents' home on East Central Avenue in LaFollette. Her family moved from LaFollette to Coal Creek when she was three years old and back to LaFollette five years later. She graduated in 1937 at age 15 from LaFollette High School, where she appeared in several school plays and was the editor of the school newspaper, "The Valley Echo." She attended Brenau College in Gainsville, GA for one year and then transferred to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where she graduated in 1941. She and Paul Bailey Francis, Sr., also of LaFollette were married in 1940 in Sevierville. She was a schoolteacher at LaFollette High School in 1941-1942 and resigned to accept a position as secretary for Francis Rex Coal Company. In Dec. 1944, she saved herself, her one year old son and her unborn child from death in a house fire by falling out of a second story window in the snow with her son in her arms. Her husband and she built the brick home at 100 Linden Park in 1948. She operated Francis Gift Shop in LaFollette for several years in the 1950's and returned to LaFollette High School in 1958, where she served as Business Education teacher, guidance counselor, and Distributive Education Coordinator. In the summer of 1964, she entered the Graduate School of the University of Tennessee and received a Master in Science degree with a major in Guidance in 1970. In May 1968, she accepted a position as Federal Projects Coordinator and Supervisor of Guidance and Vocational Education for the Campbell County Department of Education, from which she retired in 1973. After retirement, she lived for 28 years in Marietta, GA, where she was active in her Zeta Tau Alpha sorority alumni association, several bridge clubs, and the Indian Hills Country Club women's golf association, for which she served as president for one term. Her honors there included a hole-in-one in 1982 and the women's golf association Seniors Tournament Champion in 1986. She was the granddaughter of physician and former mayor of LaFollette, Dr. Ulysses S. G. Carden and wife, Ida F. Brown Carden and also of Professor James H. and Laura M. Wolford Summitt, all formerly of LaFollette. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Bailey Francis, Sr.; parents, James Boyd and Vera Carden Summitt; son, Dr. James Boyd Francis. She is survived by her son, Dr. Paul Bailey Francis, Jr. and wife, Linda of Atlanta, GA; daughter-in-law, Angie S. Francis of White Stone, VA; step-children, Lee Blasing and husband, Rick, Jer LaSuer, all of Birmingham, AL; four grandchildren, three step grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In LaFollette, she was a member of the First Baptist Church. In Marietta, she was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Incarnation. The body was cremated. A memorial service is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her name be made to any worthwhile charity. Evelyn Huddleston age 85 of the Stinking Creek Community in LaFollette, went home to be with her Lord and to join her dear husband, Everett, on Oct. 7. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, friend and companion whose greatest joy was having her family gathered round her. She was a faithful, long time member of the Walnut Grove United Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Everett Huddleston and by their son, Jackie Henry Huddleston.She is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws, Janice Powers and husband, Delmas, Agnes Seibers and husband, Carl, Millie Garrison and husband, Bob, Eunice Reynolds, Nancy Green, Gail LeBlanc and husband, Lanny, Norma Asher and husband, Ronnie, Rhonda Douglas and husband, Garry; son, Jay Huddleston and wife, Linda; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lillie Kidwell of LaFollette, Opal Carr of Ohio, Fay Goodman of Fla; brothers, Hubert Kidwell and Everett Kidwell both of LaFollette, Clyde Kidwell of Crossville, and Dewey Kidwell of Jefferson City; several nieces, nephews, and a host of near and distant relatives and friends to mourn her passing and to miss seeing her beautiful smile.Funeral services were Oct. 10 at the Walnut Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Delmas Bruce, Rev. Lonnie Kennedy, and Rev. Robert Green officiating. Interment was in the Hall Cemetery with her grandsons given the honor of serving as pallbearers. Walters Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Clarence McNeeley, age 73 of LaFollette died Oct. 4 in Tifton, GA. He was a member of the Long Hollow Baptist Church. He was member of the DAV. He served in the Korean Conflict. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also was known as the log cabin man who built miniature replica log cabins and old home places. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Geneva Orick; parents, John Calvin and Amanda Miller McNeeley; brothers, Boyd, Albert and Emerson McNeeley; sister, Druzella McNeeley. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Becky McNeeley of LaFollette; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Pat Bunch of Lakeland, FL; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren; sister: Juanita Watson of Oliver Springs; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.Funeral Services were Oct. 9 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Maxwell and Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Interment was in Bakers Forge Cemetery with the Campbell County Honor Guard in charge of graveside services. She was of the Baptist faith and loved to sew. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lilly Ray Harp; son, Michael Miracle; husband, Jasper. She is survived by her husband, Harold Mullins of Arthur; father, Elmer Harp of Speedwell; son, Timmy Miracle of Arthur; daughters, Beverly Glasco of Arthur, Janet and husband, John Collins of Harrogate; Sharon and husband, Steve Hunley of Speedwell; brothers, J.D. and wife, Cleda Harp of Speedwell, Junior and wife, Hope Harp of Harrogate, Wilburn and wife, Billie Mae Harp of Speedwell, David and wife, Betty Harp of LaFollette; 15 grandchildren, six great grandchildren; a host of family and friends. A native of LaFollette, who had moved to Kokomo, Indiana six years ago was welcomed home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Oct. 9 . She was preceded in death by her husband, Veldon Nelson; parents, Hobert and Mary Stagnolia; five sisters, and one brother. She is survived by her son, Brian Nelson of LaFollette and Todd Nelson of Mount Oak, OH; daughters, Renee Bruch of Pennsylvania, Katina Price of Knoxville, and Jennifer Nelson of Kokomo, IN; nine grandchildren; sisters, Bessie Everhart of Kokomo, IN, Eva Thomas of Frankford, IN, Rosie Abney of Galveston, IN, and Ella Faye Wilson of Jacksboro; brothers, William Stagnolia of LaFollette, and Fred Stagnolia of Jacksboro; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were Oct. 13 at Eller's Funeral Home with interment to follow. Eller's Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Preston David Presley died suddenly at his home on Oct. 4. He worked for Burroughs for 36 years, many of them as a field engineering manager in Lima, OH. He was a member of the LaFollette United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir for many years. He was also on the board of Food Life Services of Campbell County and was a Boy Scout leader in Lima, OH and in the Cumberland District. He grew up in the Akron, OH area; he served in the Army Air Corps I World War II and in the Naval Air Reserve during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Dennis; brother, Darold Slabaugh; grandson, Matthew Presley. He is survived by his wife, Ruby; son, David of Freemont, OH; grandchildren, Amanda and Steven; son, Gary of Milford, OH; daughter-in-law, Christine and grandchildren, Nicole, Caitlin and William; sisters, Norma Coughlin and Sheryle Ball and husband, Paul; brother, Gary Slabaugh and wife, Alyce; sister-in-law, Debra Slabaugh; extended family includes, Ola Wood; Dr. Burgin and Jo Wood, Wilma Johnston and Mike and Jane Westbrook. She was a member of the Jake's Branch Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed doing crocheting. She was preceded in death by her first husband: William Brian Richardson; second husband, Rev. Alfred Russell; daughters, Brenda Lou and Katie Sue Richardson; parents, Andrew Jackson and Maudie Braden Brock; brothers, J.C., Carson, Erman, Charles, Delbert, William, Horace, and Robert Brock; sister, Della King. She was a member of the First Dutch Valley Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher. Her motto in life was "Keep your eyes on Jesus." She loved quilting and gardening.
