(PAPA) - age 79 of Knoxville, LeWAND, ADAM "JOHNNY" HALL, VERA CASSAT - age 90, of Hartsville, Tennessee, formerly of Norris, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2004 at Vanderbilt Medical Center. She was born June 17, 1914 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was a member of Norris Religious Fellowship Church. She was a graduate from University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She was a retired Economics Teacher at Norris High School. She enjoyed sewing, reading and church activities. Preceded in death by: husband, Charles William "Jiggs" Hall; parents, Toy Lee & Ella Mae Cassat and sister, Verna Thomas. Survivors: daughters, Vera Jo Scudder of Norris, Mary Lea Hall of Oak Ridge; son, Charles Louis Hall & wife Sam of Hartsville; grandchildren, Gary Scudder of Norris, Mark Phillips & wife Michele of Murfreesboro, Matt Scudder & wife Valerie of Norris, Chris Hall of Murfreesboro, LeAnn Moles of Lake City, Greg Hall & wife Sheina of Florida; great grandchildren; sister, Opal Lea Lindy of Washington State; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at Holley Gamble Funeral Home. The graveside service will be 1:00 pm, Thursday at Norris Memorial Garden with Rev. Keith Haverkamp officiating. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The family has requested memorials be made to Norris High School Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, 5005 Custis Lane, Knoxville, TN 37920-3714. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements. HOGAN, THOMAS D. (PAPA) - age 79 of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2004 at Farragut Health Care Center after struggling with Alzheimer's disease and it's complications. He was born on April 7, 1925 in Jersey City, New Jersey and graduated from Kearny High School in Kearny, N.J. where he was on the swimming and boxing teams. A United States Army Veteran, Tom served during World War II as a Paratrooper while fighting in the battles of Luzon, New Guinea and the Southern Philippines. Tom received the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with the Bronze Star and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. He attended the University of Pittsburg and received a degree in Chemistry from Seton Hall University. Tom enjoyed a long and successful career in sales, real estate development and as a manufacturer's representative, working with Rowland Products Corp., CT, Minuteman Realty, CT, Chemical Separations Corp. Oak Ridge and finishing with his own company, Tom Hogan and Associates in Oak Ridge, where he and his wife lived for the past 38 years prior to his illness. He enjoyed and had a passion for a variety of activities and hobbies including golf, squash, boating, sailing, woodworking and flying. Tom was a longtime member and served as President of Chapter 17 of the Experimental Aviation Association where he and other club members built an Ultra Light Aircraft [which his family was pleased he never got off the ground, but which did remarkably fly]. He passed his love for these activities on to his children. Tom was the proud founder and President of the "Coo Coo Boo Boo Club", whose membership was limited to himself, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His joy and passion for life, his bold and firey nature, his Irish wit and keen sense of humor [both of which carried a "barb" or two], his commitment and loyalty will be remembered by his family and friends. Tom never met a stranger. He was a good man and will be missed. Tom was preceded in death by: his parents, Matthew D. and Adeline M. Hogan; his beloved aunt, Barbara (Bob) Moscarello; and grandson, Martin Beiser Hogan. Tom is survived by: his loving wife of 57 years, Doris Glenn Hogan of Oak Ridge; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Marie Hogan of Knoxville and Bill and Dee Hogan of Deerfield Beach, Fl; his children, daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Jay Herbert of Knoxville; sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and Debbie Hogan of Knoxville, Gary Hogan of Clinton, Tom Hogan, Jr. of Sevierville and James and Sally Hogan of Kingston; grandchildren, Kristin Herbert of New Orleans, La., Emily Herbert, John Herbert and Michael Hogan all of Knoxville, Katie Hogan of Durham, N.C., Andrea Hogan and Natalie Hogan of Oak Ridge, Matt Hogan of Maryville, Dean Hogan of Knoxville and Carrie Marie Hogan-Braden of Sevierville; great grandchildren, Brittany Gibbs of Knoxville, Wyatt Breeden of Sevierville and Emma Grace Baker-Hogan of Knoxville; nieces and nephews, Doug, Leslie, Lee Lee, Kim and Scott and their spouses and children all of whom collectively make up the Hogan Clan and all of whom he loved and cherished. The family appreciates the courtesy and kindness of his neighbors on West Outer Drive in Oak Ridge, TN. and the care and attention from the staff of Farragut Health Care Center during Tom's final struggle on this Earth. A private family memorial service will be held at sunset, Wednesday afternoon.
