She was preceded in death by husbands, Claude England and Floyd Branam; son, Claude England Junior; grandson, Claudie England; parents, John and Florence Smiddy; sisters, Jeanette Ridenour and Essie Baird; brothers, Bill, Ancil, Albert and Reuben Smiddy. She is survived by Charles Edward England, Dewayne England, Anneliese Goins, John Jay England, Alvin Ray England, Brenda Faye Weaver, Margaret Ellen Ayers, George Andrew England, and Early Lee England all of LaFollette, 27 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were Sept. 27 at the Stanfield Church of God with Rev. Delmus Bruce, Rev. Lester Bolton, Rev. Hansford Bolton and Rev. Tommy Rogers officiating. Interment was in Davis Cemetery. Walters Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Joseph Filar age 81 of Jacksboro died Sept. 22 at the Sunbridge Nursing Home. He was of the Catholic Faith. He lived in Poland during the German occupation; in 1952 he came to American where he became a U.S. citizen. He loved to fish in his youth. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Kathy Filar; 2 brothers. He is survived by his dear friends, Judy Campbell and Edward Harbuzinski both of Jacksboro. Betty June Baird Fox, age 80 of Jellico died Sept. 22 at the Jellico Community Hospital. She is survived by her daughter, Mary and husband, Johnny Beavers of Emlyn, KY; son, Larry and wife, Vera of Neoga, Ill; sister, Mossie Davenport of Jellico; grandchildren, Rebecca Fox, David Fox, Heather Fox and Mary Ellen Beavers. Llewellyn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. John David Gossett, age 68 of LaFollette died Sept. 28 at his home. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was also an avid fisherman who loved the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Jean Gossett; parents, John and Mary Graves Gossett; sister, Kathy Kennedy. He is survived by his son, John Arlie Gossett of Jacksboro; daughters, Tina Chapman of LaFollette, Gina and husband, Tommy Reece of Caryville; grandchildren, Corey and Tyler Chapman, Zachary Reynolds, all of LaFollette, Daniel Reese, Amanda and husband, Barry Byrd; great grandson, Matthew Byrd, all of Caryville; sister, Betty Thompson of GA. She was a member of the Cumberland View Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Gross; parents, Newton Mitchell and Grace Martin; brothers, Rex Martin, N.M. (Bud) Martin; sister, Mabel Peterman and Emma Love Brewer. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Judy Gross of Jacksboro, Martin Timothy and Brenda Gross of Sapilpa, Okla, Walter Eugene Gross of Jacksboro; daughter and son-in-law, Sondra and Bill Rains of Jacksboro; 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; sisters, Beulah Williams, Babs Hatmaker, Bettie Martin, all of Jacksboro; Joanne Hughes of Chattanooga. Horne, age 34 of Caryville died Sept. 26 at the St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Lou Smith Horne. He is survived by his sons, Michael Horne, Jr. of Jacksboro, Nikki and Damion Horne of Caryville, Joshua Michael Botts of Elk Valley; daughters, Brandi, Courtney, and Amber Horne, all of Jacksboro; Tori Chambers of LaFollette; brother and sister-in-law, Darrell and Wanda Horne of Lake City; sister, Kathy Horne of LaFollette; a host of other relatives and friends. He was a 32nd Mason and belonged to the Masonic Lodge #769 in Knoxville and the Scottish Rite in Knoxville. He was a member of the York Rite in Florida. He was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Korean War and served on the USS William R. Rush. He worked for several years as a police officer. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Eric Lynn Jones; parents, Lawrence and Minnie Jones; sister, Helen Jones; aunt, Ocie Chadwick. He is survived by his sons, William Thomas Jones and wife, Amy of Briceville, Bobby Eugene Jones, Jr. and wife, Sandie of Knoxville; step-daughter, Patricia Bradley of Sevierville; granddaughter, Samantha Jones of Briceville; brother, Lawrence "Tommy" Jones, Jr. of LaFollette; aunt, Evelyn Chadwick of Briceville; a host of other relatives and friends. Fred Hatmaker, age 99 of Caryville died Sept. 25 at the Lake City Health Care Center. He was born Sept. 22, 1905 in the Murrayville Community of Campbell County to the late Eligah and Parlie Lindsay Hatmaker. He was of the Baptist faith. He was the owner of Lake City Auto Parts, known locally as Hatmaker's Junkyard for more than 30 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Sellers Hatmaker. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Ottis Hatmaker and Janet of Noblesville, IN and Harold Hatmaker and Carol of Lake City; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Cox and Bruce of Caryville; grandchildren, Glenn Hatmaker and wife, Betty of Indianapolis, IN, David Hatmaker and wife, Chalyn of Anderson, IN, Kathryn Gipson and husband, Brad of Zionsville, IN, Wendi Arnold and husband, Gary of Knoxville, Kevin Blue of Lake City; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Koty, D.J. and Brendon Hatmaker, David, Dylan, Daniel Arnold, Jack and Sam Gipson; sisters, Myrtle Bell Vinsant of Jacksboro and Belvia Silva of Harriman. She was born in Petros, but lived most of her growing up years in Caryville and LaFollette, before going to Business College in Knoxville and living there after marriage. She was preceded in death by her father, Horace E. Tucker in 1974; brother, Jimmy Ray Tucker in 1987; husband, Jack LaVaughn Hensley in 1999; son, Michael Scott Hensley in 2001. She is survived by her son, Mark Steven Hensley and wife, Michelle; grandson, Noah (age five) and Nicholas (age 20 months) of Suwannee, GA: mother, Lorena A. (Tucker) Claiborne of LaFollette; sister, Norma Jean (Tucker) Lumpkins and husband, C. Poe Lumpkin of Huber Heights, OH. Graveside services and interment were in the Halls Memory Gardens on Sept. 27. Mynatt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Berlean Lamb, age 86 of Lake City died Sept. 23 at the St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. He was born March 5, 1918 in Knox County to the late William Tell and Irene Estella Waddell Lamb. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He loved old cars, building and woodworking. He was the founder of Green Valley Truck Stop and Lamb's Inn Motel and Restaurant. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clarence Lamb and Rev. Bill Lamb. He is survived by his sons, Berlean "Jake" Lamb, Jr. and wife, Mary Lou, William Joe Lamb, Roger Lamb, all of Clinton; daughters, Rita Jean Beach and husband, Tom, Richfield, NC, Linda Wells, Clinton; sister, Opal Hickey, Clinton; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Richard Clay Lowe, age 59 of Jellico died Sept. 21 at the Jellico Community Hospital. He was a member of the Power Pack Ministry. He was a loving father, grandfather, and brother who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvis and Nellie Bray Lowe; brother, Lee Junior Lowe; sister, Betty Ruth Lowe. He is survived by his sons, Richard A. She was a long time member of Lake View Baptist Church in Caryville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Clyde McNeil; son, Donald Leon McNeil; parents; one sister and one brother. She is survived by her daughters, Betty Bolton and husband, Bill of Andersonville, Sammie McClellan and husband, Ed of Knoxville, and Rena McNeil of Richmond, KY; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; brother, Charles Green of Ryo, GA, special friend, Mattie Evelyn Hightower of Ryo, GA; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Georgia Ann Murray, age 87 of LaFollette, a much respected and beloved math teacher who served in LaFollette High School forty-two years, died Sept. 22, at St. Mary's Health & Rehab Center in LaFollette. Miss Murray, while small in stature, leaves behind a large void in Campbell County, specifically in LaFollette, the community she loved and served for so long. She was born on May 2, 1917 to Harvey George Murray, a Federal Commissioner in LaFollette, and Alice Carden Murray, a teacher and homemaker. She lived for sixty years on Chestnut Street, later moving to Linden Square and finally a resident of the LaFollette Assisted Living Center since Aug. 2002. She was a 1934 graduate of LaFollette High School and several years later became a graduate of Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, where she earned a B.A. in Mathematics. Her father had been the County Moderator for the Baptist Church Association of Campbell County and was instrumental in organizing the First Baptist Church of LaFollette, of which she remained a life-long member until her passing. She was also a tireless worker for many years for Republican Women of Campbell County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Alice Murray; brother, John Carden Murray; sister-in-law, Kathleen B. Murray of Philadelphia, PA. She is survived by her niece, Alice M. Ditzler and husband, Tom of Sunset Beach, NC; nephew, John C. Murray, Jr. of Kempton, PA and Paul W. Murray and wife, Rev. Grace M. Murray of Gates, NC; two great nephews and four great nieces; several other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Sept. 27 at LaFollette First Baptist Church with Rev. Lane Harris officiating. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Betty Chadwick Hatmaker; brothers: Ed, Lawrence and Raymond Hatmaker; sisters: Mae Benson, Susie Ogle, Mary Sharp, and Edna Moffett.
