From The Oak Ridger 15 Oct 2004 Mary Dean Bedell, 81, of Oak Ridge, Jeffrey Glenn Davis, 63, of Oak Ridge, Otto Ta-Han Hu, 83, of Oak Ridge, Victoria Taylor, 51, of Clinton, Mary Dean Bedell, 81, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at the home of her daughter, Emily Faye Sweeden Sammons and her husband, Bill, of Oak Ridge. Born Dec. 5, 1922, in Hamilton, Ala., she was the daughter of Dewey and Erin Letitia Shelton Burleson. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Robertsville Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Bedell, on April 12, 1998; her twin sister, Edith Jean Ingram, in 1994; her grandson, Charles Alan Varnadore, on June 11, 1988 and her great-granddaughter, Karen E. Connelly, on June 18, 1987. She is survived by her son, Larry Dean Sweeden and wife, Gail, of Oak Ridge; her daughters, Beverly Jean Sweden, of Wartburg, and Flora Alice Sweden Smith and husband, Thom, of Asheville, N.C.; her eight grandchildren, Michael Sweeden and wife, Leslie, of Oliver Springs, Christopher Greene, of Wartburg, Richard Lee Sweeden, of Knoxville, John Sweeden, of Seymour, and Victor Connelly and wife, Carolyn, David Connelly, Letitia Valdez and husband, Julio, and Matthew Moore and wife, Tiffany, all of Oak Ridge; her 22 great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild; and special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Smith, of Oak Ridge. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at Weatherford Mortuary with Dr. Michael Prince and Chaplain Tom Baez officiating. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at Weatherford Mortuary. An on-line guest book can be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com Jeffrey Glenn Davis, 63, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at his home. He attended Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church in Knoxville. He enjoyed golf, attending University of Tennessee football and Lady Vol basketball games, and motor home rallies, his family said. He graduated from Union University in Jackson, earned a master's degree in public health from Tulane University, and his medical degree from the UT at Memphis. Dr. Davis served 28 years in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1990. He retired in 1990 with the rank of colonel. After beginning his career as a flight surgeon, his last two positions in the Air Force were commander of the School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and deputy command surgeon for Systems Command, Wright Patterson Air Force Base near Fairborn, Ohio. After retiring from the Air Force, he continued to practice occupational medicine in Oak Ridge with Oak Ridge Associated Universities, Coal Centra and most recently with Net Gain. Dr. Davis was preceded in death by his father, James Glenford Davis, and his son, Jeffrey Glenn Davis II. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Faye Farmer Davis; his son, James Roger Davis and wife, Becca, and was eagerly waiting the birth of his first grandchild later this month. He is also survived by his mother, Evelyn Barnette Davis of Oak Ridge, and his sister, Ann Davis Findlan and husband, Gerry, of Oberlin, Ohio. The funeral will be at noon Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dewey Corder officiating. A graveside service with full military honors will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, Oct. 14, at the church. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to Jeffrey Glenn Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund at Union University, 1050 Union University Drive, Jackson, TN 38305. Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Otto Ta-Han Hu, 83, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Dec. 5, 1920, in Pingnan Hsien, Kwanghsi, China, he was the son of Yao-Jui and Kun-Ming Li Hu. Mr. Hu was the director of research for Taiwan Sugar Cane Corporation. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Pao-Siu Tseng Hu, of Oak Ridge; his son, Aaron Hu and fiancé, Brigitte Ernst, of Hartford, Conn.; his daughter, Pat Hu and son-in-law, Russell Lee, of Oak Ridge, and his two grandchildren, Ryan and Roddy. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, He-Zheng Zeng and his wife and family, and many other relatives in China and the United States. There will be a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the American Cancer Society, 871 N. Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, Tenn. 37909. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at the funeral home. She was a member of Sinking Springs United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Charles Taylor, of Clinton; her daughters, Jaydie Osborn Farmer, of Nashville, and Jennifer Pio and husband, Jimmie Colley, of Ft. Payne, Ala.; her step-son, Joseph and wife, Denise Taylor, of Clinton; her step-daughter, Tiffany Taylor, of Clinton; and her eight grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at Sinking Springs United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lisa Stone officiating. A graveside service will follow in the church cemetery.
