I am researching the Dixon family from North Carolina to Tennessee. My great great grandmother was Sarah Jane Dixon Trammell, she was born in Tennessee in June 1, 1833 and died in Wise County, TX on October 18, 1914. Her parents were born in North Carolina. She was married to my grtgrt grandfather James Riley Trammell, he was born in Campbell County, TN. He married Sarah Jane Dixon after the death of his first wife Jane Bowlinger about 1856. Our family moved to Reynolds County, Missouri and eventually to Texas. James Riley Trammell was a Methodist Episcopal Minister. I found a DIXON family in the 1850 Overton County, TN Census. The names are Ruben Dixon age 83 born in NC, Polly Dixon age 50 born in NC, and Sarah Dixon age 16 born in TN. This Sarah would have been around my grtgrt grandmother Sarah's age. Ron, I found it interesting to read that your descendants moved to Reynolds County, MO and eventually to Texas. Some of my descendants did also...Aaron Whitecotton (some shortened it to Cotton) and his wife Nancy Ann (Hatfield), along with his son-in-law and daughter John L. and Nancy Ann Smith and family. Some of them later on migrated to Johnson County, Texas. Do you think Reynolds County had some kind of "draw"...i.e., free land, etc., that they all seemed to head that way? Peggy S.
