From The Knoxville News Sentinel 20 Oct 2004 CARDEN, ELMO - age 85, of Edgewater, Florida (formerly of Lake City, Tennessee), CONROY, NANCY LEE - age 62, of Briceville, TN., HARGIS, ROGER JEROME "JERRY" age 53 of the Joyner Community JETT, MADGE BOTTENFIELD - 85, formerly of Oak Ridge, MARTELL, SHIRLEY ANN - age 54 of Clinton, PHILLIPS, CHARLES "CHUCK" age 66, of Clinton, CARDEN, ELMO - age 85, of Edgewater, Florida (formerly of Lake City, Tennessee), passed away Sunday, October 17, 2004 at the Northhaven Health Care Center in Knoxville. He was a member of First Baptist Church of EdgeWater, Florida. He was a WWII U. S. Navy Veteran. He belonged to Avery Masonic Lodge #593 F.& A.M. in Lenoir City. He retired after 25 years of service with Pan-Am Airways at Cape Kennedy. He served with the Civilian Conservation Corp at Cade's Cove, Tennessee. He was a member of the last graduating class of Coal Creek High School - 1939. He was preceded in death by: wife, Leona Sargent Carden; son, Capt. Albert Parker Carden who was killed in Vietnam in 1971; parents, James Ancil & Martha Viles Carden; brothers & sisters, Carrie Myers, Lassie Massengill, Lawrence Carden, Claude Carden, Ralph Carden, Grace Rogers, Alene Bradley & Carl Carden. Survivors: children: Nancy Carden of Knoxville, TN, Robert Carden of Norris, TN, David Carden of Lake City, TN, Martha Carden & husband Ray Wilson of Oak Hill, Florida; grandchildren: Dr. Geoffery Carden of Salem, Oregon, Seth Carden & Maggie Carden, both of Knoxville, TN, Jake Wilson & Josie Wilson, both of Oak Hill, Florida; brothers, Roy Carden & wife Barbara of Lake City, TN, Gerald Carden of Lake City, TN, Glenn Carden & wife Rubye of Powell, TN; numerous nieces & nephews and host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 from 5 to 7pm at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City with the funeral service to follow at 7:00pm in the Chapel with Rev. CONROY, NANCY LEE - age 62, of Briceville, TN., passed away Monday, October 18, 2004 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. She was a member of Briceville Church of God. The beloved daughter of Earl & Bertie Roberts. She was preceded in death by: father, James McKinley Hatmaker. Other survivors, husband, Randy Conroy of Briceville, TN; children: Misty Miles, Edra Taylor, Laura Ticey & Kristy Taylor all of Toledo, Ohio; sisters, Penny Wilson of Briceville, TN. & Linda Spoon of Powell, TN.; brother, David K. HARGIS, ROGER JEROME "JERRY" age 53 of the Joyner Community, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 18, 2004, with his wife, children, son-in-law, and grandson at his side. He was a wonderful husband, father and papaw. He was a friend to everyone and was always willing to help others. He had been an employee of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for the past 30 years. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Jerry's interests were church, racing, old cars, riding his motor cycles, and spending time with family and friends. He was a special person and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by: his mother, Rose Hargis; father, Guy Hargis; brother, Larry Hargis; sister, Sandra Sue Dionne. He is survived by: his loving wife, Diana Mae Allen Hargis; son, Rodney Jerome Hargis; daughter and son-in-law, Stacy Diane and Joel Lasig; one grandson, Lukas Roger J. Lasig, all of Wartburg; brothers, Patrick and Steven Hargis of Jacksonville, Florida; special aunt, Juanita Hargis of Wartburg; many nieces, nephews, and several very special friends. A graveside service will be held on Friday, 11 am in Liberty Cemetery. JETT, MADGE BOTTENFIELD - 85, formerly of Oak Ridge, departed this life Saturday October 16, 2004 at NHC Healthcare in Farragut. Mrs. Jett was born December 15, 1918 in Malden, Missouri to the late Hearl and Neece Book. Mrs. Jett was a member of First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge. Mrs. Jett was a retired registered nurse having worked for the Family Practice of Oak Ridge. She was also a member of the Lioness Club, and enjoyed volunteering at Methodist Medical Center, West Mall Nursing Home, and Recording for the Blind. Preceded in death by: her first husband of 45 years, Baird F. Bottenfield, and brother Herbert L. Book. Survivors include: her husband, Col. Charles E. Jett (Retired) of Knoxville; two sons, Larry C. Bottenfield and wife Deborah of New Braunfels, Texas; and Alan B. Bottenfield and wife Anne of LaGrange, Georgia; daughter, Terrie Ware Rincon and husband Frank of Knoxville; brother, James Book and wife Doris of Gary, Indiana; three grandchildren, Brad Turner, Kristen Bottenfield Willimon, and Lindsay Bottenfield; and a great grandson John Joseph Turner. PHILLIPS, CHARLES "CHUCK" age 66, of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at his camper at Mountain Lake Marina & Campground. He was of the Baptist Faith. Chuck loved spending time with his family and his grandsons. He loved camping at Mountain Lake Marina where he had many good friends. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was employed at Carlisle Wheel & Tire for over 20 years. Preceded in death by: son, Charles Patrick Phillips; & parents, Dillard & Ora Mae Phillips.
