From the Knoxville News Sentinel 2 Oct 2004 BRISTER, MALCOLM BOWMAN, SR. - age 81 of Knoxville, CLINE, DAVID PENNYWITT, JR. - of Knoxville, VALENTINE, GREER EDWARD - 83, of Oak Ridge, BRISTER, MALCOLM BOWMAN, SR. - age 81 of Knoxville, passed away Friday, October 1, 2004 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 27, 1923 in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi. He was a faithful member of Oakwood Baptist Church, having served as a deacon and a dedicated worker for 50 years. He was a WWII veteran having served in the US Navy. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason of Burlington Lodge ####763 and a Scottish Rite member. He retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, X-10 Division after 29 years of service. Following retirement, he worked for four years at Star Sales. Preceded in death by parents, Malcolm Aubrey and Ora Bowman Brister and two sisters, all of Mississippi. Survived by loving wife of 58 years, Katherine Monroe Brister of Knoxville; daughters, Nancy B. and husband William Peden of Knoxville and Patricia B. and husband Samuel DeLozier of Maryville; son, Malcolm B. and wife Susan P. Brister of Powell; granddaughter, Deana Kennedy of Knoxville; grandsons, Robert R. Yarnell, wife Sara, and daughter Raven Atkins of Knoxville, Wayne B. Brister of Powell, and Paul A. DeLozier of Maryville; great- granddaughter, Katie Kennedy of Knoxville; brother, Shelby M. and wife Janice Brister of Bogue Chitto, Mississippi; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet Monday at 10:45 a.m. at Lynnhurst Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service and interment. Rev. Tony Earl officiating. He fooled everyone with his arrival on Apr 1, 1922 in White Pine. A member of South Knoxville Baptist Church for over 50 years, David was a pipe fitter at Fultons for 17 years and retired from Y-12 at Oak Ridge after 15 years. He was also a member of Masters Lodge ####244F & A.M., a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. David served as a physical training instructor in World War II, played semi- professional football with the Army Air Corps, and refereed football in Knoxville for 17 years. He was preceded by: his parents, David P. Cline, Sr and Viola May Bettis Cline; his wife of 60 years, Charlotte Rosalie Sherrod Cline; brothers, Gene, Neff, and Ivan Cline; and sister, Inez Line. He is survived by: his sister, Ruth Collins (Jefferson City); children, Shirley Payne (Knoxville), Carolyn Cline (Knoxville), Nancy Barbee (Maryville), and Major David Cline (Robins AFB, GA); grandchildren, Stephanie & Stephen Paul, Tony, David, & Tim Payne, Charles Frank II, Jill Yearout, Ashlee Walker; and ten great-grandchildren. Family & friends will be received at Highland South Memorial Park and Cemetery (Chapman Hwy, Knoxville) on Friday (Oct 1) 6-8:30 pm. Memorial Services will be 10:30 am on Saturday (Oct 2) beginning with a Masonic ceremony and ending with the burial ceremony accompanied by honor guard. VALENTINE, GREER EDWARD - 83, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, September 30, 2004 at the Methodist Medical Center. He was born August 10, 1921 in Cosby, TN, the son of Baxter H. and Dovie Rollins Valentine. Mr. Valentine was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Marine Corps. He had been a resident of Oak Ridge since 1945 and retired from Union Carbide Corp., where he was a machinist working at the K-25 and Y-12 plants. He was a member of the Oak Ridge Bowling Association and a volunteer of the Holiday Bureau. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann McClary Valentine. He is survived by: sons, Mark M. Valentine of Clinton and Greer "Edd" Valentine Jr. and wife Patricia of Atlanta, GA; daughter, DiAnne Valentine of Albuquerque, NM; sisters, Geneva Proffitt of Niota and Deanne Williamson of Cosby; grandchildren, Samuel Gray and wife Becky of Fairfax, VA, Kendra Gray and companion Rick Padilla of Albuquerque, NM, Greer E. "Trey" Valentine III and Sydney Valentine of Atlanta, GA, Jeremiah Valentine of Oliver Springs and Jessica Valentine of Clinton; great grandson, Zachary Gray of Eugene, OR. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 2, 2004 at 2:00 pm at Weatherford Mortuary. The burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to The Holiday Bureau, 728-B Emory Valley Rd., Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends on Saturday from Noon until 2:00 pm at Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge.
