From the Knoxville News Sentinel 5 Jul 2004 HOOKS, WILLIAM "BILL" R. - age 81, of Claxton, went home to be with his Lord on the morning of July 3, 2004, from the CCU at Ft. Sanders Parkwest Hospital. He was born in Anderson County on June 5, 1923. He was faithful member & deacon of Edgemoor Baptist Church. Bill delighted in teaching the "Willing Workers" Sunday School Class, whom he dearly loved. Bill was a past master of Alpha Lodge 376 FM. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II from 1943-1945 in Normandy Beach, France & Germany. He was retired from the Martin Marietta K-25 plant. Preceded in death by: parents, John & Martha Hooks. He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his beloved wife, whom he adored for 57 years Alma Jean Webber Hooks; daughter, Kathy & husband Steve Edsell of Smyrna; son, Billy & wife Kay Hooks of Knoxville; grandchildren, Tim Hooks & wife Cheryl, Brad Hooks & wife Mary, Todd Hooks all of Knoxville, Chris & Barry Edsell, Missy & husband Brandon Dailey all of Smyrna; 4 great grandchildren, Elliott & Isaac Hooks of Knoxville, Kelsey Dailey of Smyrna, Drake Bristow of Oklahoma; half-brother, Raymond Hooks of Marlow. The family wishes to thank all the beloved members of the famous, "Thirty-Niners" and all fellow members of Edgemoor Baptist; his fellow friends and walkers at the Clinton Community Center; his doctors, Dr. Gentry, Dr. Pardue & Dr. Bolan & the nurses in the CCU unit at Ft. Sanders Parkwest. We will take great comfort in something said by one of his grandsons after he died, "Of all the people I have ever known in my life, I have never met another person so prepared to meet his Maker as Papaw was. I want to be just like him." The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm, Monday, July 5, 2004 at Edgemoor Baptist Church with a Celebration of Life Service following with Rev. Charles Fritts & Rev. Mike Petty officiating. The graveside will be 10:00 am, Tuesday at Woodhaven Memorial Garden with a Masonic Service at graveside. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
