From The Oak Ridger 30 Jul 2004 Owen C. Portwood Jr., 74, of Knoxville, formerly of Petros, Dock Aldrige Stewart Jr., 55, Florence G. Zenni, a longtime resident of Oak Ridge, Owen C. Portwood Jr., 74, of Knoxville, formerly of Petros, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at his residence. Born April 3, 1930, in Petros, he was the son of Owen C. Portwood Sr. and Dorothy Gardner Portwood. A lifelong resident of East Tennessee, he was a member of Beech Fork Holiness Church and was an accomplished musician and a published songwriter. He was the founder of the Portwood Gospel Singing Group that toured several states in the Southeast. Mr. Portwood retired from the Oak Ridge K-25 site as a steam plant operator in 1991. He previously worked as a heavy equipment operator in construction. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War era. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris June Portwood. Mr. Portwood is survived by a daughter, Freida Emert and her husband, Randy; and a grandson, Lee Chapes Emert, all of Soddy Daisy. He is also survived by a brother and sister, Martin Portwood of Johnson City and Nina Oury and husband, Eddie, of Newport; four sisters-in-law, Addie Lou Liles and husband, Pat, of Harriman, Wanda Justice of LaFollette, and Peggy Sexton and Dora Faye Vann, both of Wartburg; two brothers-in-law, Rommie Van Jr. and wife, Pat, and Donald Vann and wife, Pat, all of Wartburg; and by many other family members and friends. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Herman Woods officiating. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at Old Petros Cemetery in Petros. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Dock Aldrige Stewart Jr., 55, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004. Mr. Stewart, affectionately called Dock Junior by his family and friends, was born June 15, 1949, to Dock Stewart Sr. of Oak Ridge and Ocie Lee Stewart, now deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Stewart. He was a member of Oak Valley Baptist Church and a 1967 graduate of Oak Ridge High School, where he held several records in track. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after serving in Vietnam. Mr. Stewart was employed with Southern Railroad in Knoxville. He enjoyed sports, working on old cars and doing construction work. According to his family, he loved his family and leaves to cherish his memory 15 children, Lakeshia Smith of Oak Ridge, Dock Stewart III, Joshua Whitehead, Chastity Whitehead, Tommy Whitehead, Jabar Whitehead and Doshenique Stewart, all of Knoxville, Shamantha "Niecy" Hughes and husband, Theodore, of Memphis, Edward Lewis Davidson of St. Paul, Minn., Donna Frazier and husband, Anthony, of Chicago, Ill., Sophia Keith and husband, Marvie, of Sauk Village, Ill., Cynthia Morse and husband, Kenneth, of Richton Park, Ill., and Roberta Bohanon, Daphne Bohanon and Ronnie Boyd, all of Atlanta, Ga. He is also survived by five sisters, Delorise Burum and husband, John L., Betty Stewart, Gwen Moton and husband, Thomas, Odessa Anderson and husband, Dave, and Wilma Stewart, all of Oak Ridge; three brothers, Douglas Stewart of Alcoa, and James Stewart and William Stewart, both of Oak Ridge; one aunt, Estella Jones and husband, Rodger, of Youngstown, Ohio; and by 16 grandchildren and many other relatives. Robert Knaff of Oliver Springs and Odell Buford, Bustard Chester and George Johnson, all of Knoxville, are considered special friends. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at Oak Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Hardil Thomas officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the church. Unity Mortuary in Knoxville is in charge of arrangements. Florence G. Zenni, a longtime resident of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at the age of 85. After retiring from the Marmoset Research Center of the Oak Ridge Associated Universities, she traveled extensively, volunteered at the Oak Ridge Arts Center and enjoyed the many friends she made in American Business Women Association and throughout Oak Ridge, but she loved nothing more than spending time with her family. According to her family, during her life she grieved the loss of her husband, Joe Zenni, her brothers, Joseph and Henry Ghory, her sister, Janet Ghory Gebhardt and her son-in-law, Scott Robertson. Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, Anne McKinney and her husband, Michael McKinney; her son, Marty Zenni and his wife, Andy Sessions; her daughter, Leila Hungerford Lott and husband, George; her daughter, Liza Zenni; her grandchildren, Courtney Carmichael and her husband, Ben, Casey Hungerford, Drew Zenni Robertson, Wyn Zenni Robertson, Colton Zenni and Rand McKinney; and her great-grandson, London Carmichael. Her brother and sisters, Jim Ghory, Helen Brown and Yvonne Schrotel, will treasure her memory as well, according to her family. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Oak Ridge Arts Center, P.O. Box 7005, 201 Badger Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37831.
