From The Oak Ridger 28 Jul 2004 Bonnie F. Hamby, 75, Babs Clark McBride, 58, of Oak Ridge, Bonnie F. Hamby, 75, formerly of Sylvan Drive in Rockwood, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Rockwood Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was a lifetime member of Rockwood United Methodist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher for many years. Before her retirement, Mrs. Hamby was employed as an operator with Southern Bell Telephone Co. and later worked in the business office. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas A. Fuller Sr. and Katherine Fuller; her husband, Kenneth Hamby; her brother, Dr. Thomas A. Fuller Jr.; and by her sister, Kaye Brewer. Mrs. Hamby is survived by her sister, Helen Warrington, of Oak Ridge; two brothers, Harold Fuller and wife, Sharon, of Oak Ridge and Ernie Fuller and wife, Susan, of Rockwood; her sister-in-law, Arlene Fuller, of Rockwood; and by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2004, in the chapel of Evans Mortuary in Rockwood with the Rev. Charles Mattson officiating. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 29, at Oak Grove Cemetery. The family requests any memorials be in the form of contributions to Rockwood United Methodist Church, 801 N. Kingston Ave., Rockwood, TN 37854. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Babs Clark McBride, 58, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at her home of cancer. Her family said she was a graphic artist who enjoyed contributing her talent to local community organizations. Ms. McBride was born and raised in Anniston, Ala., graduating from Anniston High School. She was "Miss Anniston High," an honor student and a member of a state championship age-group relay swim team. She attended Converse College and the University of Alabama. After graduation, she studied art in Florence, Italy, where she lived with her lifelong friend Dorothy Beeler Stair. She moved to Atlanta, Ga., where she again lived with Stair and worked as an artist for the Atlanta Public Library, as a member of the Teacher Corps and as an accountant with the American Civil Liberties Union. She met her husband, Neil, while he was a summer law clerk at ACLU. The couple was married in 1972 and moved the following year to Jacksboro. She directed a quilting cooperative in the nearby coalfield community of Clairfield. She moved to Oak Ridge in 1978, where she had been a graphic artist with Science Applications Internaitonal Corp. since 1990. Ms. McBride taught Sunday school for many years at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Her family said she was deeply involved in the lives of her children, and was active in youth soccer, Parent-Teacher Associations, cheerleading, dance, the Oak Ridge High School orchestra and other groups. She designed T-shirts and materials for organizations such as Save Our Cumberland Mountains, TCWP, United Church Chapel on the Hill, CONTACT, the Glenwood Elementary School bond referendum and local election campaigns. She had a wry sense of humor and a relentlessly positive outlook, her family said. In addition to her husband, who is an attorney with the Legal Aid Society, Ms. McBride is survived by her son, Allen, a graduate student at Duke University; her daughter, Bonny, a sophomore at Oglethorpe University; her parents, Rodney W. and Ann Rasberry Clark, of Anniston; her sister, Lucy Clark, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and by her brother, Rodney Clark, of Montgomery, Ala. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Burial will also be at the church. The family requests any memorials be in the form of contributions to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 212 N. Tulane Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
