From The Oak Ridger 29 Jul 2004 Robert Allen "Len" Blaine Jr., 34, of Knoxville, \Nova Lee Mendell, 86, a former resident of Coalfield, Florence G. Zenni, a longtime resident of Oak Ridge, Dock A. Stewart Jr. of Oak Ridge Robert Allen "Len" Blaine Jr., 34, of Knoxville, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville after a long and brave battle with leukemia. Mr. Blaine was a former police officer with the Oak Ridge Police Department. Born Nov. 4, 1969, in Knoxville, he was the son of Mary Katherine Roach Franklin and Dr. Robert Blaine. He graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1987 and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee in sociology in 1995. He earned a juris doctorate from Samford University, Cumberland School of Law, in 2003. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Etheridge Roach; his paternal grandparents, John and June Blaine; uncles, Larry and David Roach; and a cousin, Cary Ragan. In addition to his parents, Mr. Blaine is survived by his loving wife, Janna Blaine; his maternal grandmother, Martha "Mimi" Roach; his mother-in-law, Kay Rodgers; his father-in-law, Dr. John C. Rodgers; his brother-in-law, Shawn Rodgers; his beloved aunts, Karen Ragan and Jennifer Roach; an uncle, Carl Ragan; cousins, Misty Wynn and Ashley Hughey; and many other special family members and special friends, Michael Rooney, Patrick Dodge, Brian Perry, Robert Brooks and Charlie Daniel Jr. The family expresses a special thank you to the nurses at 4 West, the oncology staff at the Cancer Care of East Tennessee, Frank Gunson, and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, July 30, at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Dean Ward Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Box 19024, J5-200, Seattle, WA 98109-1024. Nova Lee Mendell, 86, a former resident of Coalfield, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at her home in Lakeland, Fla. Born March 18, 1918, in Coalfield, she was the daughter of Charles T. Walls and Ethel Grace Butler Walls. She was the widow of W.H. Mendell. She was a homemaker and had lived in Lakeland since 1970. She was a member of the Lakeland Garden Club and the Lakeland Baptist Church. Mrs. Mendell is survived by her daughter, Janice Welch of Lakeland; three sons, Robert Mendell of Vienna, Va., Joseph Mendell of London, England, and William H. Mendell Jr., of Lake Wales, Fla.; two brothers, Reid Walls and Maurice Walls, both of Oliver Springs; and by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, July 30, at Estes Cemetery in Coalfield. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is in charge of local arrangements. Florence G. Zenni, a longtime resident of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at the age of 85. After retiring from the Marmoset Research Center of the Oak Ridge Associated Universities, she traveled extensively, volunteered at the Oak Ridge Arts Center and enjoyed the many friends she made in American Business Women Association and throughout Oak Ridge, but she loved nothing more than spending time with her family. According to her family, during her life she grieved the loss of her husband, Joe Zenni, her brothers, Joseph and Henry Ghory, her sister, Janet Ghory Gebhardt and her son-in-law, Scott Robertson. Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, Anne McKinney and her husband, Michael McKinney; her son, Marty Zenni and his wife, Andy Sessions; her daughter, Liza Zenni; her grandchildren, Courtney Carmichael and her husband, Ben, Casey Hungerford, Drew Zenni Robertson, Wyn Zenni Robertson, Colton Zenni and Rand McKinney; and her great-grandson, London Carmichael. Her brother and sisters, Jim Ghory, Helen Brown and Yvonne Schrotel, will treasure her memory as well, according to her family. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Oak Ridge Arts Center, P.O. Box 7005, 201 Badger Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37831. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 30, at Weatherford Mortuary. Dock A. Stewart Jr. of Oak Ridge died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
