From The Knoxville News Sentinel 23 Jul 2004 CARDEN, WILLIAM DONALD 'BILL' - 74, of Oak Ridge, FARROW, NATHAN DOUGLAS - 22, of Oliver Springs, CARDEN, WILLIAM DONALD 'BILL' - 74, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at his home. He was born March 2,1930 in Lake City, TN, the son of the late Mary Ruth Young and William Lafayette Carden. Mr. Carden was a 1948 graduate of Oak Ridge High School where he was a member of the football, basketball, track teams and attended the University of Tennessee. Mr. Carden was city councilman 1975-1979, representing the Highland View Precinct. He was a member of the Tennessee Municipal League Board of Directors and the Melton Regional Industrial Development Board of Directors while serving as councilman. Mr. Carden retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems in 1992 as a Health Physics Technologist. After retirement, he served as a volunteer at the American Museum of Science and Energy, Habitat for Humanities, Oak Ridge Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Oak Ridge Library. He greatly enjoyed his many friends he met in his volunteer service. Mr. Carden was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church and was a member of the choir for many years. He was a member of the Children's Museum and the Oak Ridge Historic & Preservation Association. Mr. Carden served as a member of the side line crew for Oak Ridge High School football games for many years. He supported and enjoyed all Oak Ridge High School sports. Mr. Carden is survived by his wife of fifty six years, Tillie Grey Weber Carden; son and daughter- in- law William Eugene and Barbara Carden of Thompson Station, TN.; daughter and son- in-law Leah Denice Cress and Tom Cress of Richmond, TX.; brother and sister-in-law Eugene and Ethel Carden of Knoxville, TN; seven grandchildren. Matthew, U.S. Air Force, Korea and wife Berkley Carden of Glendale, AZ, Kara and William R. Carden of Knoxville,TN; Colby and wife Meredith Cress of Missouri City, TX., Cory, Turner and Taylor Cress of Richmond,TX; three great grandchildren, Zachary and Ashley Carden, and Madeline Cress; two nephews, Brian Carden of Nashville, TN., David and wife Cindy Carden of Knoxville, TN. Mr. Carden is also fondly remembered by sisters-in- law Virginia Copeland and Julia Koze of Oak Ridge, and brother-in-law Evans Weber of Cumming, GA. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 25, 2004 at 4:00pm at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Martin and Rev. Bill Mooney officiating. In keeping with Mr. Carden's wishes, he will be cremated and a private interment will be at a later date in the Memorial Garden of the church. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1350 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830 or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 446 Metroplex Dr., Suite #200, Nashville, TN 37211-3139. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00pm at the First United Methodist Church. Arrangements handled by Weatherford Mortuary. (www.weatherfordmortuary.com) FARROW, NATHAN DOUGLAS - 22, of Oliver Springs, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at UT Medical Center. Rising senior at TN Tech. Funeral services are Sunday, July 25, 2004 at 2:30pm at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Mullins officiating. The burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the ministry needs of Central Baptist Church, 130 Providence Rd., Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:30 - 2:30pm at Central Baptist Church.
