I have a copy of the following document from Campbell County TN, the names and dates are hand written everything else is typed. I realize the bottom most part indicates that John Lambert and Lizzie Jones were married on Sept 20, 1892. My question - the two names at the top of the page 'John Lambert and Lindsay Lovely' - are they the parents of the John Lambert who married and Lizzie Jones? Or would the groom himself sign this document with whoever, maybe a parent of the bride? I am researching a John Lambert who married a Mollie Elizabeth Jaynes and am wondering if this might be the same 'Lizzie Jones'. The couple I'm researching had a child Jan 16, 1892, so don't know???? The first is the marriage Bond and the second is the marriage license. The folks who e-mailed you saying the first was a marriage bond and the second was the marriage license are correct. A marriage bond was put in place in the event the man (from the way I understand it) changed his mind. I have seen it where the groom is listed on the bond, so the John Lambert listed may indeed be your groom. The other individual may be the bride's mother, or another relative of the bride. I would also say that "Lizzie Jones" and "Elizabeth Jaynes" are very close indeed. I would most definitely assume they are one and the same person. As for the January 1892 birth of the child and the September 1892 marriage, is it possible that the child was born in January 189"3", a few months after the marriage? If you're going from a census to determine the child's age, that's not always the most accurate criteria.
