From The Oak Ridger 27 Sep 2004 Janis Brian Rowe, 75, of Hope, Ark., Lucille J. Ruffner, 89, lifelong resident of Coalfield, Earl McKinney, 81, formerly of Sugar Grove Valley community in Roane County, Janis Brian Rowe, 75, of Hope, Ark., died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope. Born Jan. 17, 1929, in Camden, Ark., she was the daughter of A.T. and Blanche Morgan Brian. She graduated from Fairview High School, where she played the bassoon in the band. She earned degrees from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and University of Arkansas Medical School in Little Rock in medical technology. She worked as a lab technologist in the lab at Magnolia City Hospital, Warner Brown in El Dorado, Davis and Jefferson Memorial in Pine Bluff, Hempstead County Memorial, Nevada County and Medical Park Hospital, where she retired in 1988. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hope and the ACTS Sunday School class, Handbell Choir and Adult Choir. She had been active in the Melonaire's Square Dancers Club and the Friday Music Club. According to her family, she was a virtuous woman as stated in Proverbs 31: 28 and 29, "Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. Mrs. Rowe is survived by her husband of 52 years, J.W. Rowe; four children, Mona Rowland and her husband, Bill, of Oak Ridge, Donna Buelow and her husband, Steve, and Jay Rowe and his wife, Rhonda, all of Hope, and Jan Rowe of Eureka Springs, Ark.; and her sister, Vera Parrish of Damascus, Ark. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Jamie Carson and her husband, Shane, of Fort Collins, Colo., Matt Rowland and Hannah Rowland, both of Oak Ridge, Erin Maneth and her husband, Jeff, and Meredith Buelow, Ashley Buelow, Clayton Rowe, Sarah Rowe and Jacob Rowe, all of Hope, and Maxine D'Ambrosia of Eureka Springs; and a great-grandchild, Carter Maneth of Hope. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Hope with the Rev. Wade Hood and the Rev. Earl Cumbie officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Hope. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to Susan B. Koman, Race for the Cure, First Baptist Church, Window Fund, 315 S. Main, Hope, AR 71801, and/or the charity of the donor's choice. Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope was in charge of arrangements. Lucille J. Ruffner, 89, lifelong resident of Coalfield, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born May 6, 1915, in Coalfield, she was the daughter of Richard and Abbie Craig Jackson. Mrs. Ruffner was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Coalfield. She retired from the Morgan County school system, where she worked as a cafeteria worker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Ruffner, two sons, Donald Ruffner and Harold Ruffner, two brothers and four sisters, Oliver William "Pete" Jackson, Joseph "Sabe" Jackson, Mary Sampsell, Kate Irene Stubbs, Elberta Fagan and Gertrude Purdy, and a daughter-in-law, Lori Ruffner. Mrs. Ruffner is survived by her sons, Ralph W. Ruffner and Earl Thomas Ruffner, both of Coalfield, and Jimmy D. Ruffner, of Dayton, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and by numerous friends and extended family members. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, in the chapel at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Dr. Billy Edmonds officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Estes Cemetery in Coalfield The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, at the funeral home. Earl McKinney, 81, formerly of Sugar Grove Valley community in Roane County, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, in Maryville.
