From the Knoxville News Sentinel 24 Sep 2004 HILL, EDWARD D. - 83 of Oak Ridge, LAMB, BERLEAN - age 86 of Lake City, TN, MURRAY, MISS GEORGIA ANN age 87 of LaFollette, SNELLINGS, ARCHIE LEE - age 85, of Clinton, HILL, EDWARD D. - 83 of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at the Methodist Medical Center. He was born June 22, 1921 in Knox County, TN, the son of Daniel Briscoe Hill and Lillie Ebbs Hill. He was a graduate of Halls High School. He served with the US Army from 1942- 1946, during which time, he served in the South Pacific and received a Bronze Star and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. Upon leaving the service, he attended the University of TN for a short period of time until he was recalled back into the military because of the Korean Conflict. He served another nine years and was discharged in 1953. He was an active member of Central Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he had served as Trustee, taught Sunday School Classes and he helped in the Preschool Department, which was very dear to him, because of his love for children. He was also a mason. Mr. Hill loved spending time helping others and was known as "Mr. Fix It". He was loved by all who knew him. He retired in 1984 from Union Carbide Corp/ X-10, after 29 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: siblings, Melvin Hill, Mildred Breeden, Kenneth Hill and Lillian Hall. He is survived by: his wife of 61 years, Dottie Hansard Hill; son, Brent Hill and wife Mary of Powder Springs, GA; daughter, Deena Dunham of Oak Ridge; sisters-in-laws, Mildred Park and Mildred Hansard, both of Knoxville; and 7 grandchildren, Destin E. Hill and wife April of August, GA; Sean W. Hill of Athens, GA; Tyson C. Hill of Powder Springs, GA; Aimee N. Dunham, Trey B. Dunham, Scott D. Dunham and Lacey A. Dunham, all of Oak Ridge. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at 2:00pm at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Gray and Rev. Bobby Mullins officiating. The burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens with full military honors led by Veterans United Honor Guard. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to Central Baptist Church, Preschool Dept, 130 Providence Rd., Oak Ridge, TN 37830. LAMB, BERLEAN - age 86 of Lake City, TN, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2004 at the St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. He was born March 5, 1918 in Knox County, Tennessee to the late William Tell and Irene Estella Waddell Lamb. Berlean was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He loved old cars, building and woodworking. Berlean was the founder of the Green Valley Truck Stop and Lamb's Inn Motel and Restaurant. He is preceded in death by: his parents, brothers, Clarence Lamb and Rev. Bill Lamb. Survivors: sons, Berlean "Jake" Lamb, Jr. & wife Mary Lou Clinton, TN, William Joe Lamb, Clinton, TN, Roger Lamb, Clinton, TN; daughters, Rita Jean Beach & husband Tom, Richfield, NC, Linda Wells, Clinton, TN; sister, Opal Hickey, Clinton, TN; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren. MURRAY, MISS GEORGIA ANN age 87 of LaFollette, a much respected and beloved math teacher who served in LaFollette High School forty-two years, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at St. Mary's Health & Rehab Center in LaFollette. Miss Murray, while small in stature, leaves behind a large void in Campbell County, specifically in LaFollette, the community she loved and served for so long. Miss Georgia was born on May 2, 1917 to Harvey George Murray, a Federal Commissioner in LaFollette, and Alice Carden Murray, a teacher and homemaker. She lived for sixty years on Chestnut Street, later moving to Linden Square and finally has been a resident of the LaFollette Assisted Living Center since August of 2002. Miss Georgia was a 1934 graduate of LaFollette High School and several years later became a graduate of Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, where she earned a B.A. in Mathematics. Miss Murray's Father had been the County Moderator for the Baptist Church Association of Campbell County and was instrumental in organizing the First Baptist Church of LaFollette, of which she remained a life-long member until her passing. Georgia was also a tireless worker for many years for Republican Women of Campbell County. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Harvey and Alice Murray. Also preceding her in death was: her beloved brother, John Carden Murray; and sister-in-law, Kathleen B. Murray of Philadelphia, PA. She is survived by: a niece, Alice M. Ditzler and husband, Tom of Sunset Beach, NC; a nephew, John C. Murray, Jr. of Kempton, PA; and a nephew, Paul W. Murray and wife, Rev. Grace M. Murray of Gates, NC. She is also survived by: two great nephews and four great nieces; several other relatives and friends. Funeral services Monday 8 p.m. at LaFollette First Baptist Church with Rev. Lane Harris officiating. Interment Tuesday 10 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday before services at LaFollette First Baptist Church. SNELLINGS, ARCHIE LEE - age 85, of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at Windwood Health Center in Clinton. He was a retired brickmason and was of the Church of God faith. Preceded in death by: parents, Harvey and Cythia Atterson Snellings; wife of 65 years, Katherine Ann Snellings; brothers, Walter and H.M. Snellings; sisters, Eva Fordham and Gladys Randolph; and grandson, Tony Snellings. Survivors include: sons, Elvis L. and wife Phyliss of Lake City, Johnny H. of Maryville, Melvin E. and wife Carolyn of Kingston; daughters, Brenda Riggs of Lake City and Anita Michelle and husband Calvin Cameron of Claxton; brother, Jack Snellings and wife Ailene of Knoxville; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Woodhaven Funeral Home on Friday, September 24, 2004 from 6-8 pm. A Chapel service will follow with Rev. Wayne Phillips officiating. The interment will be held, Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens at 1 pm.
