Marjorie Guy Orick, 83, of Crossville, Vena Summers Richards, 92, of Clinton, James Edward Borum, 87, of Oliver Springs, Daniel Blueford Braden, 78, of Oliver Springs, Pete Baker, 43, of Concord, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at Saint Mary's Hospice Center after a long courageous battle with cancer. He is the son of Janie Baker and the late, G.C. Baker. In addition to his mother, Mr. Baker is survived by his partner and endless love, Beverly R. Cockrum, with whom he made his home; their faithful dog, Oscar; his brother, Chuck Baker of Concord; his sister, Nancy Rogers of Maryville; and Claire, Cindy, Chug and Mark, all of Phoenix, Ariz. A graveside service will be at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at Union Cemetery with the Rev. James Titcomb and Tony Miller officiating. The pall bearers will be David McGinnis, Fred Sumners, Joe Mathis, Ponder Wilmouth, Rocky Souza and Glen Vanosdale. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel. Brenda J. French, 60, of Swansea, S.C., died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, in Greenville. Born Sept. 17, 1943, in Coalfield she lived in Swansea for 25 years, where she was a member of the Saint Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church of Swansea. She was preceded in death by her father, James L.C. Maston. She is survived by her husband, George Thaxton French; her children, Eddie French and wife, Bonnie, and Michelle Johnson and husband, Brad, all of Swansea, Sharon Sturkie and husband, Dee, of Gaston, S.C.; her mother, Helen Wormsley Maston, of Swansea; her grandchildren, Eric Cobia, Tiffany Anderson, Brandi Ray, Crystal French, Steven Spires and Christopher Sturkie; her great-grandchildren, Alexus Ray and Ethan Anderson; her brother, Dwaine Maston and wife, Jean, of Maryville; and her special friend, Lana Harris, of Wartburg. She is also survived by a nephew, extended family members and many special friends. The funeral will be at noon Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at Saint Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. H. Larry Jones and the Rev. H.B. Jeffcoat officiating. Burial will follow at the Melrose Cemetery. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is in charge of local arrangements. Jolly B. "Sam" Holcombe Sr., 93, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was born on Aug. 19, 1911, in Greenville, S.C., and moved to Columbia, S.C., as a young man. He came to Oak Ridge in 1943 to work in construction before transferring to Union Carbide in 1945 where he worked at K-25 as a supervisor in the maintenance department. He opened Solway Hardware & Builders Supply in the Solway community in 1955. Upon leaving Union Carbide in 1957, he devoted his full time to Solway Hardware and developing and building residential and commercial rental property in Solway and Oak Ridge. He was also a 50-year member of the Grand Lodge Free & Accepted Masons of Tennessee, Lodge No. 756, of Oak Ridge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jolly Roy and Maude Lee Holcombe; a brother, Elliot Roy Holcombe; and a sister, Daisy Carpenter. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Estelle Mundy Holcombe; sons, Jolly B. Holcombe Jr., of Solway, and Warren Holcombe, of Greenville, S.C. He is also survived by a sister, Grace Malphrus, of Harlingen, Texas; and two grandchildren, Cheryl Holcombe, of Knoxville, and Troy Holcombe, of Claxton. The family would like to thank the staff of floor 4-West at the Methodist Medical Center for their attention and care. A Masonic Service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, led by members of Faith Masonic Lodge No. 756. The funeral service will follow with the Rev. Charles Mattson officiating. Born March 8, 1920, in Hickory, N.C., she was the daughter of Marshall Cecil Abee and Sara Marie Leanna Lail Abee. Mrs. Martin was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church. She was an excellent seamstress and also enjoyed crocheting and embroidery, her family said. When her health permitted, she also loved to tend her garden and can the vegetables. Another great enjoyment was her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, her family added. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Pershing Martin on May 9, 2002, and her twin sister, Doris Abee Throneburg in March. She is survived by sons, Ronald M. Martin and wife, JoAnn, of Oak Ridge, and Douglas M. Martin and wife, Myra, of Rome, Ga.; her brother, Marshall Cecil Abee and wife, Phyllis, of Greensboro, N.C.; her eight grandchildren, Bonnie Thornber and husband, Heath, of Pompano Beach, Fla., Ron Martin of Gainesville, Fla., Kathy Russell and husband, Kevin, Ray Brannon, Danny Brannon and wife, Christy and LeAnn Martin, all of Oak Ridge, Joni Hardin and husband, John, of Crystal Beach, Texas, and John Martin and wife, Nancy, of Seattle, Wash; her 15 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Bob Gray officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Grace Holifield Nichols, 81, of Marion, Ala. died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Center. Mrs. Nichols was married to the "love of her life," Ralph Nichols, for 63 years. Together they owned and operated Nichols Plumbing. She is survived by her husband, Ralph Nichols, of Marion; her son, Glenn Nichols and wife, Rita, of Prattville, Ala.; her daughter, Ralphine Nichols Oakes and husband, Mason, of Clinton; her sister, Azell Smith, of McCalla, Ala.; her grandchildren, Monica Oakes, Melissa Oakes, Gregory Nichols, Mark Nichols, Jeffrey Nichols; and great-grandchildren, Hayden, Matthew and Kaleb. The active pallbearers were Gregory Nichols, Mark Nichols, Jeffrey Nichols, Bruce Nichols Jr., Leon Smith and Ellis Thomas. The graveside service was Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at Mount Nebo Cemetery in Alabama with the Rev. James L. Waters Jr. officiating. Marjorie Guy Orick, 83, of Crossville, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004. Born Feb. 6, 1921, she was the daughter of William "Bill" Mack and Lilly Guy. She was a member of Tansi Community Church. Known as mother, mamaw, sister and friend, the family says they celebrate her life and home-going to meet her Savior. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Walter Howard Orick; and her siblings, Paul Guy, Wilma Sender, Thelma Roe, Billy Guy and Paul Guy. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Pearson and her husband, A.J. Pearson; her son, Eugene Orick and wife, Rita Orick; her grandchildren, Conley and Sonya Orick, William "Bill" Orick, and Cindy and Travis Colston; her great-grandchildren, Ryan and Brady Orick, and Olivia Colston; her siblings, Spurgeon Guy, Bobby Guy, Stanley "Buddy" Guy, JoAnn Penland, and Karen Taylor. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. The funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel in Maryville with the Rev. Allen Raines officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, in Anderson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Vena Summers Richards, 92, of Clinton, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at Mariner Health of Norris. She was a member of Blowing Springs Baptist Church and loved gospel music, her family said. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delis B. Richards Sr.; her son, Larry Richards; her daughters, Eulajean and Ellajean Richards; her parents, George and Tabitha Lee Summers; and six brothers and sisters. She is survived by sons, Bernard Richards and wife, Ruth, of Clinton, David Richards and wife, Sherry, of Panama City, Fla., Don Richards and wife, Charlene, of Seymour, Ind., and Allen Richards and wife, Jackie, of Columbus, Ind.; her daughters, Delores Albertson and husband, Al, of Clinton, and Kathleen Hale and husband, James, of Chiefland, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and friends and other relatives. The family would like to thank Adventia Hospice of Knoxville and special caretaker, Blanche Tuell.
