She was born June 12, 1943, in Newnan, Ga. She is survived by her son, Richard Knight, of Lavalette, W.Va.; her sisters, Marie Hillard and husband, Ralph, of Powell, Nancy McMillian, of Oak Ridge, Catherine E. Aslinger and husband, Estel, of Oliver Springs; her brother, George R. Knight, of Clinton; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Linda Newman. A graveside service was to be at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at Grandview Memorial Garden. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of arrangements. Lorene S. Melton, 79, of Oliver Springs, died on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004. Born Oct. 14, 1933, in the Marlow community, Mrs. Melton was the daughter of George Singleton and Susan Holder Singleton. She was a lifelong resident of this area and was a homemaker and member of Gallaher Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three daughters, Joy, Donna and Stacey Melton, and a son, Gregory Melton. Mrs. Melton is survived by her husband, Jim Melton; two daughters, Gayle Ward and husband, Larry "Doubey," and Janice Neal and her husband, Gary, all of Oliver Springs; three sons, Bruce Melton and wife, Edna, of Crossville, Jeffrey Melton and wife, Becky, of Harriman, and Brian Melton of Oliver Springs; nine grandchildren, Timothy Ward, Deletta Gossett, Wendy Bailey, Stacey Floyd, Sonya Morgan, Gary Neal, Wendella Melton, Jacob Ward and Matthew Melton; and by 10 great-grand children. A graveside service and burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at the Indian Creek Cemetery in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Donnie Harvey officiating. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is in charge of the arrangements. Emma M. Moran, 83, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born July 28, 1921, in Atlanta, Ga., she was the daughter of Daisy Caldwell and Stewart McGinty. Mrs. McGinty graduated from East Rivers Elementary School in Atlanta, Ga. and then from North Fulton High School in 1938. In 1942, she graduated from Randolph-Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, Va. with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and later earned her master's degree in education from Elmira College in Elmira, N.Y. On Aug. 17, 1946, she married William Bailey Moran Jr. of Philadelphia, Pa. She taught chemistry at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga. from 1943 to 1946 and at Drexel Institute in Philadelphia, Pa. from 1946 to 1950. She resumed teaching chemistry in 1968 at East High School in Corning, N.Y. until she retired in 1981. While at East High School she was faculty adviser for LOGOS and had the yearbook dedicated to her. She also devoted time being a faculty adviser to East's chapter of the National Honor Society and coached the high school chemistry students who took part in the CHEM BOWL. While living in Corning and Painted Post, N.Y., from 1950 to 1991, she was active as a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Corning, taking her turn being in charge of the pre-kindergarten Sunday School and later as Sunday School superintendent. She was on the Rochester, N.Y. Episcopal Diocesan Board. Outside of the church, she was a member of the Corning Clionian Society, Corning-Painted Post Historical Society, Corning Meals on Wheels, Corning Hospital Chapter A, Delta Kappa Gamma, Corning-Painted Post Retired Teacher's Association, Pack 1, Painted Post Cub Scout Den Mother, a Red Cross Volunteer, and an active member of the PTA. She and her husband moved to Oak Ridge from Painted Post, in October 1991. She became a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and took part in Saint Theresa's Guild, Foyer Group, Evangelism and Renewal Committee, Bread Ministry to Visitors, Food Distribution at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, worked at the Ecumenical Storehouse, and was an usher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Bailey Moran, Jr., who died in 1997; a sister, Eleanor M. Bickel; and three brothers, A. Stewart McGinty, W. Wadsworth McGinty, and Dr. A. Park McGinty. She is survived by two sons: Douglas B. Moran, of Palo Alto, Ca., and Bruce W. Moran and his wife, Barbara, of Brookeville, Md.; one grandson, Christopher W. Moran; one granddaughter, Erin G. Moran, both of Brookeville, Md.; one sister, Laura M. Overstreet, of Biloxi, Miss.; 10 nieces and nephews, 20 great-nieces and nephews; and by five great-great nieces and nephews. A memorial service was to be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Oak Ridge with the Rev. Craig Kallio officiating the service. Burial will be in St. Stephen's Memorial Garden following the service on Monday. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to St. Stephen's Memorial Fund, 212 N. She enjoyed watching North Carolina college basketball, her many flowers, bowling, playing the piano, singing, playing bingo, Duchess and her many pets, being able to feed the birds and squirrels near her home and going to NASCAR races, her family said. She graduated from Averett University before she was employed at K-25 in Oak Ridge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney D. Shaffer, and her brother, Worth Martin. She is survived by her son, E. Milton Spencer Jr., of Oak Ridge; her grandchildren, Jason P. Spencer and his wife, Rae and their two children, of Oak Ridge, and Charles M. Spencer and wife, Cyndi, with their two children. She is also survived by two nephews, Tony W. Martin, of Florida, and Tim Martin, of North Carolina; two nieces, Teresa Heffinger, of North Carolina, and Susan Propst, of South Carolina; two stepchildren, Daniel T. Born in Jacksboro, on Sept. 25, 1915, he was the son of Henry and Mary Agnes Hollingsworth Wheeler. Wheeler was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Oak Ridge. He retired from Union Carbide, Y-12 Facility, after 37 years of service. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jeanie Sue Wheeler, in 1945, and his son, John Michael Wheeler, in 1979. He is survived by his wife, Mamie Bailey Wheeler; his daughter, Patricia Dail and husband, Thomas, of Farragut; his brothers, Bill Wheeler, of Jacksboro, and Henry Wheeler, of Tullahoma; his sisters, Ada Catherine Cannon, of Clinton, and Emma Sue Richardson, of Akron, Ohio; his grandchild, Shaun Patrick Dail, of Denver; and his great-grandchild, Ashley Marie Dail, of Racine, Wis.
