I am willing to bet that a full 25% of every American alive today can trace their roots back to KY in some fashion. Sometimes the line between this State and TN was very blurred. We ancestral Tennesseans owe them an obligation to stand along side them. Or to stand up for/with them right now, as the case may warrant. All is not lost, yet. Our gg'grandfathers fought and gave their very lives for these rights.Granted, this is the 11th hour in Kentucky, but it is still not too late. The vote is tomorrow. We online genealogists defeated SB 818, (Bill to Destroy Wills), in Virginia under even worse circumstances in Feb 2003. It had already passed the Senate *unanimously* and our influence alone saw to its defeat in the House 15-80! This killed the Bill and the vote made history in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our voices counted. It CAN be done again! There is no fat lady singing, ... yet! She is in WV, but not in KY. Read the Bill carefully for yourself. It is rather poorly presented, which ought to tell you something: http://www.lrc.state.ky.us/record/04rs/HB100/SCS1.doc Email every Senator in Kentucky immediately. Tell them how irreparable this action is. Tell them how much money you and other genealogists spend in KY. Tell them that identity thieves get their information from the local newspaper, not their Courthouses. Be nice, but firm and concise. Stick to the facts, (and cite them), and resist any negative emotion. Here is the url for the entire KY Senate Roster: http://www.lrc.state.ky.us/whoswho/whoswho.htm Debra The moral of this story: Stay on top of your State Legislators at all times. Do not allow this leprosy to gain a foothold in Tennessee. BTW, I am receiving email back from KY Senators. Some are surprised at my explanation of this Bill.
