Kirkpatrick, 98, of Spring City, |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| Mary Ruth Oakes Bergwerk, 63, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died of cancer Sunday, March 7, 2004, in Cincinnati. She was the daughter of the Rev. T.R. and Christine Oakes, both now deceased. She grew up in Andersonville and attended Norris schools. She was later a resident of Oak Ridge and attended Roane State Community College, where she earned an associate's degree in business administration in 1985 and an associate's degree in radiologic technology in 1993. Before her illness, she was employed by Mercy Hospital in Cincinnati. According to her family, she was also a talented seamstress and enjoyed classical music, reading and traveling. She adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. She was a treasured mother and sister to her daughters and siblings, her family said. She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Hire and husband, John, of Dallas, Texas, Lynn Woody and husband, Denny, of Memphis, Tisha Bryan and husband, Sam, of Richland, Wash., and Laurie Gibson and husband, Jimmy, of Cincinnati; and her granddaughters, Zoe Woody, Lauren Bryan, Hannah Bryan, Claire Gibson and Chloe Gibson. She is also survived by six sisters and brothers, Shirley Roberts, Betty Lively, Carl Oakes and wife, Gloria, and Frank Oakes and wife, Anne, all of Andersonville, Nancy Surber and husband, Willard, of Kodak, and Bill Oakes and wife, Flo Ann, of Clinton; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and her "adopted" family, Tammy and Josh. A memorial service was held Monday, March 8, 2004, in Cincinnati. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to Mercy Hospital Anderson Women's Center, 7500 State Road, Cincinnati, OH 45255. Member of Jacksboro United Methodist Church Nell K. Buckley, 90, of Jacksboro, died Monday, March 15, 2004, at St. Mary's Residential Hospice in Knoxville. According to her family, Mrs. Buckley was a very faithful member of Jacksboro United Methodist Church and retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority after many years of service. She taught piano lessons for 11 years in Jacksboro and Caryville. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.S. "Bob" Buckley, her parents, W.H. and Elizabeth Queener Kasefang, and a brother, Ernest Kasefang. Mrs. Buckley is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Emma and Bobby May of Jacksboro; three granddaughters, Katherine May of Smyrna, Ga., Karen Baird and husband, Charlie, of Jacksboro, and Laura Hundermark and husband, David, of Norris; and a grandson, Will May and wife, Kim, of Jacksboro. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Ryan Chaniott, Andrew Chaniott, Justin Bolton and Katelyn May; her sister-in-law, Lucille Kasefang; and by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Jacksboro United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Osborne officiating. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at Jacksboro Cemetery. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to St. Mary's Residential Hospice, 7447 Andersonville Pike, Knoxville, TN 37938, or to the Jacksboro United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Cross Funeral Home in LaFollette is in charge of arrangements. Jack Starr Denton, 78, of Lenoir City, died Sunday, March 14, 2004, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville after complications from Alzheimer's disease. Born April 21, 1925, in the Martel community, he was the son of Tom and Ada Starr Denton. Mr. Denton was married to Agnes Davis Denton for over 58 years, and according to his family he was a devoted and wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was an active member of Central United Methodist Church for over 60 years. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army serving with the 100th Division and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Mr. Denton graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1950 and his family said he was a dedicated volunteer for life. He was an employee of the federal government for 41 years with Tennessee Valley Authority, Atomic Energy Commission, Energy Research and Development administration and the Department of Energy, where he retired as director of safeguards and security for DOE facilities in seven states and Puerto Rico. A longtime Rotarian, Mr. Denton was a past president of Lenoir City Rotary Club. He was chairman of the Civil Service Board for Lenoir City and a longterm member of the Loudon County Planning Commission. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Denton; five brothers, Alvin Denton and wife, Hazel, Paul Denton and wife, Elizabeth, J. B. Denton and wife, Ernestine, Tom Denton and wife, Sue, and George Denton; three sisters, Blanche Nichols and husband, Leon, Frances Cardwell and husband, Jesse, and Rosalie Lee; and by a brother-in-law, Tom Perala. Mr. Denton is survived by his wife of 58 years, Agnes Davis Denton; a son, Tim Denton and wife, Ruth Ann, of Lenoir City; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Stanley Denton, of Johnson City; a sister, Betty Denton Perala; a brother-in-law, Gene Lee; three sisters-in-law, Phyllis Groover and husband, Charles, Betty Plemons and husband, Harry, and Janice Rogers and husband, Bud; six grandchildren, Amanda Wagner and husband, David, of Elberton, Ga., Matthew Denton of LaVergne, and Ben Denton, Sarah Denton, Amy Denton and Adam Denton, all of Lenoir City; his great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Wagner of Elberton; and by several special nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Central United Methodist Church in Lenoir City with the Rev. Dr. C. Mark Gooden and the Rev. Doug Crowder officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. VFW Post No. 5150 and American Legion Post No. 120 and No. 70 will conduct military rites. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to Central United Methodist Church, "Walking In Faith" Campaign, 301 Hickory Creek Road, Lenoir City, TN 37771. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. Nora L. Kirkpatrick, 98, of Spring City, died Sunday, March 14, 2004, at the Spring City Care Center. Born in Section, Ala., she was the daughter of the Rev. John and Sarah Harris. A homemaker, she and her husband, John, by whom she is survived, lived in Oak Ridge for 43 years before moving to Spring City in 1986. John Kirkpatrick was the manager of the James H. Moore Apartments for 20 years. Mrs. Kirkpatrick was a member of Central Baptist Church in Spring City. In addition to her husband of 66 years, she is survived by her daughter, Jilda Davis and husband, Richard, of Bowie, Md.; her sister, Kate Phillips, of Section; and by three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2004, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City with the Rev. Danny Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Spring City Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at the funeral home.
