    2. Hi List, I don't know if any of you have gotten a message from a John@rootsweb.com it came through with ancestry board address asking you to go to a site and check it out....I would advise you not to go to the address. It lookks on the up and up but I just bet it's not....About 2 months ago a same type of message was sent to me ...Dummy me went and a virus hit my computer but AVG my FREE Virus protector caught it....Normally I don't put this sort of message out ..but it looks suspious to me.......To get the free AVG go to www.grisoft.com.. Better to be safe than sorry. Even though I have back up of all my genealogy I still want to keep it on my computer......I just know a John at rootsweb.com wouldn't send a message like that. 3. Milly, I received the same to another list, as well. A John@rootsweb sent such a message with "Help" in the subject line to my WASPOKANE list. I can't see anything suspicious in the properties of the e-mail, but the message is still rather vague----doesn't say what information the site might have. Says they need traffic to stay up and running. Thanks for the heads up. 3. Hi Milly: every list I am on has had this sent to them. I went to the site last night because it looked ligit and there was this ??? Site. Very odd. looked very evil. Don't really know how to explain it. But it definately was not a genealogy site. I ran my virus scan and I didn't pick up a virus. May be a teenager or a kid who thinks this kind of thing is funny. Also could be if you go to any of the links from it there could be a virus on it. You can bet he is not doing it just to see his name on the screen. ----- Original Message ----- From: <MPiros1120@aol.com> To: <TNCAMPBE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 23, 2004 4:20 PM Subject: [TNCAMPBE-L] A message from Milly > Hi List, > > I don't know if any of you have gotten a message from a John@rootsweb.com it > came through with ancestry board address asking you to go to a site and check > it out....I would advise you not to go to the address. 3. If you are curious about these mystery sites you can go to http://www.hyperwhois.com and do a domain search. Every domain is registered somewhere and this type of search will provide you with some information about the registration service and the owner of the domain name. If you do not trust the above link you can do a google search on whois and the above should be one of the links returned.
