(POPPY) - age 87, of Lafollette, SCARBROUGH, INEZ FRANCES - age 98 of Oak Ridge, TN, SHARP, ISABEL GUY \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ ADKINS, ULIS T. - age 87 of Lake City, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2004 at his residence. He was born August 9, 1916 in Campbell County, Tennessee to the late Charles and Nora Emery Adkins. Ulis was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist church. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII. Ulis loved reading his bible and spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by: his parents; sons, Jerry Adkins, Jeffery Adkins and Jimmy Adkins; sisters, Pearl Webber and Alice Shultz; brothers, Olis Adkins and Russell Adkins. Survivors: wife of 64 years, Lola Vowell Adkins, Lake City, TN; son, Johnny Adkins & wife Lois, Lake City, TN; daughters, Sharon Morgan & husband Roy, Lebanon, TN, Shelia Edwards, Knoxville, TN; daughter-in-law, Linda Adkins, Lake City, TN; sister, Naomi Roddy, Lake City, TN; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; special friends, G.B. and Dorothy Carden, Judy Daugherty and Patricia Vickers; several nieces, nephews and many hriends. Visitation: 6-8:00 pm Friday, April 2, 2004 at the Hatmaker Funeral Home. Funeral service 2:00 pm Saturday, April 3, 2004 in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with John Tyler Adkins and Rev. David Crowley officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Lake City, TN HICKS, HOWARD V. (POPPY) - age 87, of Lafollette, formerly of Mascot, passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at St. Mary' Hospice. He was a member of the Mascot United Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge #738. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Ezra Hicks and Alta Marie Hicks Evans; his wife, Vera Elizabeth Hicks; and sisters, Francis Bateman and Elizabeth Hicks. He is survived by: 1 son, Howard V. Steve Hicks and wife Anna May of Michigan; 2 daughters, Sherry Wade and husband Kenneth of Knoxville and Ora Faye Faulkner and husband John C. of Lafollette; 5 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Marsha Black of Clearsprings; a very special Friend, Cathy Satterfield; and a very special thank you to Dr. David Wooten and the Nursing staff at St. Mary's COU. The family will receive friends from 6pm till 8pm on Friday, April 2, 2004 at the Mascot United Methodist Church with a Masonic service at 7:45pm and the Funeral Service at 8pm. Rev. Denny Ford, Rev. Dave Henderson and Daniel Justice will officiate. Graveside services will be conducted at 11am on Saturday at the Roseberry Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:45am. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Mascot United Methodist Church in memory of Howard Hicks. Serving as Pallbearers will be: John C. Faulkner, Elmer Brown, Stevie Hicks, Jamie Smith, Ben Holt and Jeff Justice. McCarty Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. SCARBROUGH, INEZ FRANCES - age 98 of Oak Ridge, TN, passed away early Thursday morning, April 1, 2004 at her residence in Oak Ridge. She was born in Pinhook Community of Polk County, and was a former resident of the Carlock Community near Etowah. For the past 7 years, she had resided in Oak Ridge, TN, She was a daughter of the late Fate and Ethia Evans Lowery Scarbrough. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Etowah, TN and had attended the Chestuee Baptist Church where she was pianist for 25 years. Preceded in death by: parents, listed above; husband, James Lowery Scarbrough; brothers, Archie Taylor, Frank A. Taylor, R. L. Taylor, Roy G. Taylor and Joe V. Taylor; 3 sisters; Edna Wooten, Chassie Stillwell and Anna Reba Ramsey. Survivors: brother and sister in law: Jack R. and Margie Taylor Oak Ridge, TN; several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004, in the Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home. Ministers: Rev. J.E. Firestone and Rev. Jim McElhaney will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Benton Memorial Gardens for the committal service. She was a member of Lafollette United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the United Methodist Women for over 60 years. She was a retired school teacher having taught 5th grade at West Lafollette Elementary for 25 years. She remained active in retirement as a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, the Lafollette Book Club, the Campbell County Historical Society and enjoyed her hobbies of cooking and growing roses and tomatoes. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Robert Hutsell Sharp; her brothers, Morgan C. Guy, Andrew C. Guy, and Julian C. Guy; and her son-in-law, William B. Oldham. She is survived by: her daughter, Frances Sharp Oldham, Knoxville; her grandchildren, Jennifer Hatcher, Arlington, VA; Krista Torrance, Signal Mountain, TN; Bill Oldham, Knoxville, and Rob Oldham, Washington, DC; and her sisters, Charlotte Grose, Grasse Pointe, MI, and Vera Hobby, Ashburn, GA. She is survived by: 3 great grandchildren. Funeral service 3 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at Lafollette United Methodist Church, Rev. Danny Hensley officiating. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.
