Grills Jr., 73, of Kingsport, formerly of the Fordtown community, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Indian Path Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Born in Sullivan County, he was the son of Ben F. Grills Sr. and Mary Grills. He resided in Sullivan County all his life and was a graduate of Holston High School. Mr. Grills was a lifelong farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Riggs. Mr. Grills is survived by his sister, Margaret B. Grills; his niece, Jill Rich and husband, Darrell; his nephew, Joe Riggs and wife, Becky; four grandnephews, Garrett Rich, Alex Rich, Darren Riggs and Ben Riggs; his brother-in-law, Jack T. Riggs; and his special friend, Ruby Whaley, all of Kingsport. The funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2004, in the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes in Kingsport with the Rev. John F. Toney and the Rev. Helen Monroe Grills officiating. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Glen Alpine United Methodist Church Building Fund, 3200 Glen Alpine Road, Kingsport, TN 37660 or Warriors Path Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 5343, Kingsport, TN 37663.
