From The Knoxville News Sentinel 14 Apr 2004 BOWLING, TONY RAY - age 55, of Oliver Springs, METCALF, DIXIE TYLA - age 75, of the Claxton Community PARKS, CARTER OTHYN - 75, of Clinton PHILLIPS, JR., FARLEY - age 74 of Lake City \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ BOWLING, TONY RAY - age 55, of Oliver Springs, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict having served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Edward C. and Mary King Bowling; sister, Kay Bowling Condra; brother, Charles E. Bowling. He leaves: his wife, Linda G. Bowling of Oliver Springs; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Ginger Bowling of Mossy Grove; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Cindy Bowling of Auburn, Alabama; sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Ray Robbins of Kingston; five grandchildren, Ashley, Lindsey, Andy, Bryson, and Abigail; mother-in-law, Merle Gunter of Mossy Grove. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 14, 2004 from 6-7:30 pm at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg. Funeral services will begin at 7:30 pm with Bro. Tom Mooty officiating. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, 11 am in the Oak Ridge Memorial Park. METCALF, DIXIE TYLA - age 75, of the Claxton Community, departed life as a true and faithful servant of the Lord on Monday, April 12, 2004 at Baptist Hospital. She was a charter member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Powell. Preceded in death by: parents, Orville & Ollie Mary Coward; sisters, Jewell Agnes Knight & Geneva Carey. Survivors: husband of 55 years, Buford G. Metcalf of Clinton; children, Roger G. Metcalf of Powell, Kay Wilson of Spencer, June Berry of Clinton, Ronald Metcalf of Spencer, Rita McMahan of Powell, Nancy Jones of Knoxville, Doug Metcalf of Powell, Jay Metcalf of Powell, & their families; sister, Cleo Vivian Beets of Powell; brothers, James Thomas Coward of Powell, Johnny Harold Coward of Powell; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces & nephews. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services following in the Chapel with Rev. Calvin Braden officiating. The interment will be 2:00 pm, Thursday at Woodhaven Memorial Garden with Charles Cook officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton in charge of all arrangements. PARKS, CARTER OTHYN - 75, of Clinton departed this life on April 12, 2004. The son of Cecil Clifford Parks and Arpie Sisson Parks, he was born on December 16, 1928 in a nineteenth century log cabin in Briceville, Tennessee. Mr. Parks was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and has been a resident of Anderson County most of his life, except for nine years of military service. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps and was a Korean War combat veteran. He met his wife Bobbie while stationed in North Carolina, and they recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Carter retired from TVA in 1983, where he was a materials engineer during the construction of several power plants in East Tennessee. A driver for Fox Toyota for the past 20 years, he loved to travel by car and enjoyed hiking and walking. His favorite hobby was to visit the Blue Ridge Parkway of North Carolina, where he knew every trail and mile marker by heart. He was the beloved father of five children and "Granddad" to ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as a favorite uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews in Tennessee, North Carolina and Ohio. He will be sorely missed by friends and family, including his extended family in Morgan County and Bobbie's family in North Carolina. Carter lived each day to the fullest and enjoyed NASCAR, bluegrass music, fishing with his brothers and grandsons, growing tomatoes and corn each summer, and cooking Sunday dinner for his family every week. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Dean Chrismon Parks (Bobbie); son Danny Cecil Parks of Lake City; daughters Seaira Stephenson and husband Brad of Oak Ridge, Angie Bunch of Lake City, Regina McCallister and husband Dennis of Strawberry Plains, LaVerne Doucet and husband Bert of Gueydan, Louisiana. Brother Lyndel Parks of Memphis; sisters Emily Duncan of Clinton and Betty Lynn Vowell and husband Quentin of Jacksboro. Brother- in-law Herbert Chismon and wife Margaret; sisters-in-law Lutitia Hill, Gladys Bland, Luvina White and husband Allen all of North Carolina. Grandchildren Preston Parks, Barbara Julian and husband Brad, DeAnna Bunch, Dustin Bunch, Jesse McCallister, Landon McCallister, and Derek Lovely of Tennessee and Dean Fontenot, C.J. Fontenot, and Robert Fontenot of Louisiana. Great-grandchildren William and Breanna Julian, and special niece Renee Burchfield and husband Dennis, all of Clinton. Reunited in Heaven with his parents at last, Carter was preceded in death by father and mother Cecil Clifford Parks and Arpie Sisson Parks; brothers Chester Parks, Albert Joseph Parks, Cecil Parks, Jr.; sister Opal Braden; son-in-law Michael Ray Bunch; and other family and friends. The family will receive family and friends on Thursday April 5, 2004 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Jones Mortuary in Clinton, the funeral service will be Friday, April 16, 2004 at 1:00 PM. in the chapel of Jones Mortuary with the Rev. Tom Byrge officiating with the interment following at Clinch River Baptist Church Cemetery in Lake City. Jones Mortuary in Clinton in charge of all arrangements. PHILLIPS, JR., FARLEY - age 74 of Lake City, passed away Monday, April 12, 2004 at the James A. Quillen Veteran Hospital in Johnson City, TN. He was born August 24, 1929 in Montery, Tennessee to the late Farley Sr. and Birtie Looper Phillips. He was a member of the Island Ford Baptist Church for 60 years. Farley was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 7262 Greenville, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, A.J., Buster, Arthur D., Lilburn and Carl Phillips, sisters, Myrtle Sanders, Hazel Chanders, Leva Strongs and Learlene Ray. Survivors: wife Loucille Hunley Phillips, Lake City, TN; son Benny Joe Phillips, Andersonville, TN; daughters & sons-in-law Linda & Samuel Spencer, Pennsylvania, Mickie & Todd Kelly, Lake City, TN; grandchildren Billy Spencer, New York, Joy Spencer, Pennsylvania, Lorinda Newberry, Pennsylvania, Channa Kelly, LaFollette, TN, Steven Kelly, Lake City, TN; great-grand-daughter Lindsay Newberry, Pennsylvania; sister Carolyn Sue Riggs, Knoxville, TN.
