    3. I have found very very little about my family from the Campbell Co. list...I subscribe because I did have some family there and hope to find more. I'm really not interested in reading stories about someone else,BUT it would be very helpful if the surnames were put in the subject line right after stories. People subscribed to this list WILL read the stories in hopes that it may shed some light but it would be helpful if the surnames were listed so that they won't HAVE to read the stories. It may make people less irritated...you know they read the whole long (could be boring) story and it was all for nothing. If the names were in the subject, they wouldn't have read it...and "wasted their valuable time"...some may think. Just my 'silent' opinion (c: Tina Armes Pieplow On Thu, Mar 20, 2008 at 6:01 AM, Doyle King <kingdek@gmail.com> wrote: > These stories are exactly what I thought they would be. 1. [TNCAMPBE] Stories
    2. Cousin Milly has indicated she had one "complaint" about the suggestion that the Campbell County list become a repository for personal family stories. That was probably me. I suggested to her (in her capacity as the list administrator) that she might point those interested in such exchanges to other places besides this list. Most of us subscribe to Rootsweb lists in the hope that we might connect with other searchers who share a branch on our family tree. I have personally found half a dozen cousins via these lists, including a couple of second cousins. The information we've shared has been a blessing. And the obituary postings by Missy, Suzie and Neal were always much appreciated. There are other options for the posting of family stories, even on Rootsweb. First, of course, would be surname lists, so those of like names might tap into someone related to them. Another choice would be one of the Folklore, Legend & Family Stories message boards listed at http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.folklore/mb.ashx. It is also an option to start a Yahoo group (http://groups.yahoo.com/) or Google group (http://groups.google.com) devoted just to story exchange. Perhaps the Campbell County sites on ALHN or GenWeb could host a story corner. I hope we don't dilute the original direction of the list without hearing both sides. Perhaps it is time to do a roll call and get some input from the silent majority. Bunnie in MN

    1. Re: [TNCAMPBE] James Smiddy
    2. Elizabeth Smiddy
    3. Hi Debbie: We have so many James and James Franklin Smiddys that I will have to check my records and find which one this is. You are correct, Coal Creek, now Lake City, is in Anderson County. Most of the earlier Smiddys lived in the Jacksboro/Caryville area of Campbell Co. Some did go to Briceville and worked in the coal mines there. Edward and Joseph Smiddy were both killed in the Fraterville mine explosion. Their parents were James Franklin Smiddy and Polly Woods Smiddy, both being deceased at the time of their sons' deaths. Polly also lost 4 Woods family members in that explosion. This particular James Franklin Smiddy sometimes went by Frank James Smiddy, said there were too many James Franklins. He then changed it to James Smithers. He is buried in the Sharp Cemetery between Jacksboro and Caryville, right next to Cove Lake. He was in the Civil War, Union, as were all the Smiddys, and was shot and killed by James Hannah in the 1880's. I will check my info tomorrow and see if I can find the particular James Smiddy that you are looking for. Our immediate family group left Jacksboro and went to the mountains around the Stinking Creek area during the Civil War. Most of them were coal miners too. Uncle Caswell Smiddy and his family ended up in the mines in Harlan County, KY. My husband's father was killed at Westbourne in the mine there, and two weeks later his brother, John Lewis "Penny" Smiddy was killed at Ivy Dell, also mining. If anyone chooses not to read the contents of a Story posted here....there is a simple solution. Press DELETE and it is gone. There are some who might enjoy them and of course some who might not. Rather than anyone getting their knickers in a twist, if everyone adheres to the instructions of posting the subject line as STORY then no one has to read it if they chose not to. AND EVERYONE IS HAPPY...Happy hunting to all. No need for conflict when the solution is right in front of our noses. **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home.
