What are the chances of Elvira, Almira, and Charlotte, Telitha (Litha, Lytha), Rosa Lee Brown all being related?? They all were Browns. They all married Harnesses. Almira Brown married Jerry Harness, son of Thomas and Telitha (Litha, Lytha) Brown. Charlotte Brown married James Albert Harness, son of John and Elizabeth Harness. Rosa Lee Brown married James Albert Harness, son of Joe and Amanda Lovely Harness, and grandson of the first James Albert Harness. Did I forget any other Browns that married into the Harness family? I need to verify the ages for all of these women to see if I can link them together. Jennifer Harness Ayers Chattanooga, TN Just thinking. Sometimes that is so hard to do! Donna, I would love to hear what you find out about Macedonia Church. My grandmother Daisy Reed daughter of James Franklin Reed and Mary Jane Lindsay, grew up in that church. I am sure that you know that the Reeds, Harmons, and Gaylors were among the founding families of Macedonia Church. Since I descend from all three of these families, I would love to hear more about the church and its members. Thanks, Debbie Wilson Fehr Nancy Jane Gaylor b. 3-30-1850 (my great grandmother) (sister of your Thomas b. 1856) children of Thomas Gaylor b. 1803 and Susannah Harmon b. 1821 **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. I believe the founding year for the church is posted in a sign or plaque at the church. If so I know I looked. But have forgotten it. Early Indian Creek Baptist Church records were copied I believe by the WPA. They are in the McClung Library in the East TN Historical Center in Knoxville. Sure wish they had done ALL the churches. I also wish our ancestors had known that we were going to meddle into their business 200 years after their death. They may have left a better trail and preserved the records better. Church records are so vulnerable anyway. In my research I have found that fire has been the culprit many times. Either the church burn or in most of those cases the church clerk's house burns. Then there are the problem of passing down the records to the next clerk. Especially the older records were most suseptable to that dilemma. Then there is the problem of church quarrels. That has happened too. Of course church records are private records that are governed by the indivdual church bodies. I believe those in authority over all historically important public records should see that they are preserved. Of course some are moot records and need not be preserved. There are state guidelines to go by as to what state and county records are for the general public to view and those that are keep private even though they may be a state record. Also the length of time to keep these records. MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL! Hi: I believe Eliakim would have died sometime before 1812 because Elizabeth, his widow, married John Tye III on 3/5/1812. I have a record of 4 children for Eliakim and Elizabeth and 4 children for John Tye and Elizabeth, but census records show her with 10 children so I must be missing a couple. In looking at Ancestry.com, I found over 40 files listing John Stanton Adkins as the son of Richard and Nancy Adkins or Richard and Rebecca Burrows Adkins. From my understanding and emailing with Erlyne who has the deed, this is incorrect. Many take the Deed of Conveyance that is posted on ancestry.com as showing that John Stanton Adkins was their son. However, there were at least 2 John Adkins in the area in the past. I tried to post comments on them, but gave up after doing about 10. If I am incorrect in this, please let me know, but I'm pretty sure I have a good grasp on them. I only wish there was some way to correct messed files. Lord knows, mine are probably messed up somewhere too and I would definitely welcome someone helping me fix them! Erlyne, I just couldn't stand it anymore!!!! Hi Nancy: If you have the Scott County cemetery records, would you mind looking to see if there is a Reuben and Sarah Shoopman Smiddy couple in there. They lived in Campbell County, but had children in Scott County, and for some reason, Reuben's War of 1812 Pension documents say he is buried in Scott County, and then, just as Sarah was going to get her widow's pension from him, she passed away, and they say she is also buried in Scott County. I know the boundaries for both counties were different back then, but since most of their children are buried in either Jacksboro, Stinking Creek or the Jellico, Elk Valley area, it is strange that they would be buried in Scott County. I don't want to be any bother, but just when you get a chance to look, I would appreciate it. Just to cover a wider area, I checked cemetery records for Scott County, too, and did not find her. I'm afraid we have lost a lot of burial records due to the use of field stones - and markers that have sunk or been covered by overgrowth. Good luck with the hunting. My gr. gr. aunt Rachel Monday married Steve Carroll, son of Morton & Mourning. From census records I know they had 6 daughters, Hattie, Maggie, Mattie, Mauda, Lillie & Clemma. Rachel died April 5, 1919 from pulmonary tuberculosis & is buried in Douglas cemetery. Their daughter Mattie md. William York & she died Jan. 28, 1930 from tuberculosis. Steve remarried a Betty. He died Feb. 17, 1954 and is buried in Jellico Cemetery. Any further info on this family would be appreciated. I would like to know what happened to the girls. Hi Libby, we know for sure that James C. and she left Tennessee for a short time and he was working in the Coal Mines. We guess that maybe by the dates of the coal mines that maybe they settled in Harlan or Hazard maybe. Have been looking there for years-no luck. Someone even suggested that they divorced.( Not likely, possible I guess) but the girls were raised by Morning mostly and it is said that Jane died in childbirth after Sarah in 1882 or 1883. I believe all the girls were born in cc. Thanks for your help.
