I'm looking for the unk. 'Murray' that married the following Martha [Pierce] Rutherford between 1920 and 1930. Any help really appreciated and thank you. Hello: As usual, I posted a response before I read all the posts concerning the subject. As I said this looks Like the daughter of the Ewell Smith who I believe to be a nephew to my great great grandmother Mary Smith Baird. Married Rev William Baird's son Joseph. Her father was Josiah Smith. I have a picture of Helen Ellison Smith wife of John L. Smith who was Mary Smith Baird's brother, or it is supposed to be her. I got it from Eugene Lay and he said he thought he got it from Arlie Lay from Oneida. Arlie was related to the Smith family through Louisa Smith Baird, Ewell would have been her brother, ( daughter of John L. Smith ) who married Rev Jesse Baird. John L. Smith's father was Josiah. I was supposed to send this picture I have of Helen Ellison Smith to someone quite a while ago but forgot who it was. Any one wanting a copy I will try and send you one. William Baird's KY Land Grant. Any one have info on this family? Was Eual ( Ewell ) a son of Josiah? I'm not sure why the question marks were added....they should not be in the obit.? I am confused about this obit as they list her mother as Helen Ellison.? Marriage records for Ewel Smith are to Zephra Lawson on 10 Nov 1864, Campbell County, Tenn. (she is a distant cousin of mine)...According to ancestry records, which you can put a question mark to, Ewel Smith's mother was Helen Ellison....1880 Campbell County, Tenn. census has Helen Smith living with Ewel and Zephra.....
