Bonnie, Someone already sent you the info on John Comer that is buried at Davis Chapel Cemetery, but thought I would add that there are 2 different Sarah Comer's that are also buried there. One is Sarah Comer b. March 15, 1888 d. Jan. 2, 1929 & a Sarah P. Comer b. March 30, 1872 d. Jan. 19, 1927. There is also a James Comer buried there b. Oct. 20, 1895 d. March 11, 1920. Bobbie
There is a John Comer buried in Davis Chapel Cemetery: b. 1862 and d. 1947. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bonnie Mumford" <mumfy@zoominternet.net> To: <TNCAMPBE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 09, 2004 6:21 PM Subject: [TNCAMPBE-L] Hunting Comers that lived on Davis Chapel Road in 1930 I am tracking down the John Comer family, (he was born March 1866) who lived on Davis Chapel Road in the 1930 census. His wife was Sarah Prater who had died in 1927. I need a death date for him and was wondering if he could have been buried at Davis Chapel Cemetery?? Sarah and John had twins Dora and Doshie born Nov 1897. Dora apparently married a Wilkensen or Wilkerson after 1920 but she was a widow by 1930 and lived with her father John in 1930. There was also a son: John Henry Comer b. 1900 in March (and may have died in June 1970 in Claiborne Co.); a son named Benjamin F. (b. April 1909 and died *I think* in April 1980) and another son named William W. A daughter Mae who was born in 1905 may have died before 1920. The main mystery I'm trying to crack is Sarah Prater apparently had married an E. M. Riggs in 1891 (marriage record). Who was E. M. Riggs??? She shows up in the 1900 census married to John Comer (they married in 1897). In the 1910 census, Sarah stated she'd been married twice (John said only once) and there's a son named James who was 16 in her household. This James was found in the household of Sarah's grandparents in 1900 (age 5 b. Oct 1895) and was listed as James R. Prater. In 1910 he was listed as James Comer. I lose track of this James in the 1920. He either died or perhaps took his father's last name maybe?? Anyway, any info would be deeply appreciated. Thank you so much for the census lookups. This very helpful!!!! When I have more time probably tomorrow when the kids and hubby are at work & school I will have to sort all this out. I have contact with one of Hefferman Ross' daughters I'm going to print all this out for her and see if she can remember any names, dates, or locations. I have already asked her some before I had this info and it was hard for her to remember but I think having the names might help ( I hope) I will also see if she knows anything about Olie Ross. I will let you know what we come up with Thanks again, ChristyO
WOW ... this is cool. Some of these folks belong to my dad's sister's husband, Olie Ross. And I confirmed with my aunt that the spelling is "Olie", not "Oly." Also, my aunt gave me Olie's father's name as Alvin Granville, so the "G" might possibly have been taken for a "J." Christy, I know that Olie looks to be only a cousin to your descendant, but I do have a photo of him if you're interested. E-mail me and I'll send it to you as an attachment. Donna (Brock) Strong P.S. Someone asked me earlier if I might have early photos of Jellico. Unfortunately, I do not and don't know of anyone in the family who might. But if I run across any, I'll post here and then we can make contact again. ----- Original Message ----- From: "bleach" <bleach@rose.net> To: <TNCAMPBE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 09, 2004 2:52 PM Subject: [TNCAMPBE-L] More info on Hefferman Ross' ancestors > 1880 Whitley County, KY, Marsh Creek, Jun 23, 1880 > A. WOW ... looks like my Uncle Olie could be the brother to your relative, Christy. That's incredible. Since Olie was born in 1906, he wouldn't show up until the 1910 census. Milly, Thank you for the info. Maybe the first name spelling is why I am not finding much on him. I didn't have the SS info, I think I may have to order the card he filled out. Is it pretty helpful??? Thanks again, Christy
Christy I searched the 1900-1910 Census on genealogy.com and could not find HEFFERMAN ROSS. I did find on the Social Security index HEFFERNAM ROSS (it was spelled that way) #403-07-6821 born KKY SS number was issued in KY..Birth date January 17 1894--Died Sept 1963 in Michigan. If you want his social security card that he filled out...I believe it is now $27. It was $7 when I ordered my folks copy. It went up from $7 if you knew the number and $14 if you didn't..Now I think it's $27 for all...Quite a jump Milly WARD Piros My mind is like Lightning.....One brilliand flash and Poofffffffffffff It's gone. Thank you very much for the look up-Christy
Christy, I made a mistake. My uncle was born in Ryan's Creek in McCreary Co., KY, which is NEAR Whitley Co., KY. I'm sorry for any confusion. Christy, My dad's sister married an Olie Edward Ross, who was born in 1907 in McCreary, Whitley Co., KY. My dad's family lived in Jellico, Campbell Co., TN and that is where my aunt and uncle lived (my aunt still lives there today at age 87). Olie's parents were Alvin Granville and Virginia (Taylor) Ross. His mother, Virginia, died in 1936. Maybe if you could find her obituary, it might note whether or not any other Ross family members are related. If so, maybe you could find Alvin and his family and get lucky and find your Ross relatives living nearby ~ since many times families moved near each other. Best wishes for a find!
