    3. Bobbie, I believe this is the Thomas Riggs you are talking about but I have him in 1900 Claiborne County census born in Aug 1860 and married to a Barbara. Then in 1910 Campbell County census, I found a Thomas that fits the age range married to Nancy J. In both cases there are no children so if this is the one that married Emma Chapman, where are the kids. I've looked at about every Riggs family in TN in the 1900 and 1910 censuses and can't find any of the kids that you have listed for Thomas and Emma. 1880 Campbell County census William RIGGS M Male 52 TN Farmer Catharine RIGGS M Female 45 TN Keeping House Thomas RIGGS S Male 21 TN Farmer Mary RIGGS S Female 10 TN At Home Nancy J. The name does seem to ring a bell. Do you have any dates for them. Bob, I went back through my notes and facts. According to the death certificate, Thomas Jefferson Riggs (also known as Tommy) was born Dec. 7, 1859 & died Aug. 29, 1946. I don't know when Emma was born, but from my grandmother's (Mary Ann Riggs Ivey) own handwritten notes, she died on Nov. 29, 1898. (probably not long after her last child's birth) Also, I noted that she spelled her mother's name Emaley, so it probably was Emily. But on my grandmother's SS application, it said Emma Chapman as her mother's maiden name. Thomas & Emma had 6 children that I know of: Mary Ann b. Aug. 31, 1882 John M. b. Feb. 14, 1885 William Joseph b. April 11, 1887 Orpha b. May 31, 1891 Sarah E. b. Jan. 1894 Elizabeth b. Abt. 1898 I know that Elizabeth died when she was a small child, maybe around 1-2 years old. Thomas later remarried a Nancy Ivey in 1904. Thomas was still living with his parents in 1880, so he & Emma probably married between 1880-1882. I know nothing about Emma Chapman's family, so am hoping for any info that anyone may have! 1. Barbara Angeline Phillips Smiddy 1829-1852
    2. Elizabeth Smiddy
    3. Does anyone know who the parents of Barbara Angeline Phillips Smiddy were? They lived in the Jacksboro area, and she married Reuben Smiddy, Jr., in Campbell County, on March 9, 1844. They had four children, and she died giving birth to the fourth child in 1852. I would like to know her parents, and where she is buried, as I cannot find her in any of the cemetery books for Campbell County. I believe her to be buried in the Jacksboro area. Reuben remarried in 1856 to Easter/Esther Hicks. She raised Angeline's four children, and she and Reuben had four more of their own. Reuben Smiddy, Jr. died during the Civil War at Camp Nelson, in Kentucky, and is buried there. Easter/Esther Hicks Smiddy is buried at the Hall Cemetery on Stinking Creek. Any information about Reuben's first wife would be very appreciated. Elizabeth Bunch Smiddy Campbell County, TN

    1. photo update
    2. Still suffering a camera dilemma so I don't have any new cemetery pics to post but there have been several pics added for the people section that needs folks to look at them to see if they might be able to help. Many thanks to Angela Meadows she not only posted some of her folks, but also the one she has mentioned in emails to the list of some unknowns. Also Bailey Frances posted one of Coal Creek School in the school years of 1927-1928, and 1928-1929, if you had folks that attended this school at that time it might be nice to look and see if you can find any relatives. Joy Ward Iversen donated a Clinton High School class of 1927, some of the names she was able to see in the photo she has listed for us, she has also posted several old news paper clippings, and photos of her family folks. Some photo's are always hard to make out or have just worn with age, but we are always glad to see them. All of these mentioned here are ones that could use help in identifing some folks. Also would like to thank Shirley Sutton Braggs, and Joan Hanson for their donations. I think all together cemetery pages included we have around ten thousand photo's gathered to share with everyone. That is a lot of sharing and I am so grateful to everyone. Thanks! Bonita "Bonnie" Phillips http://www.geocities.com/craftybcp

    3. Bonnie, Yes, Bettie Wright was mentioned in the Hatmaker divorce case. May 24, 1900 Tennei Hatmaker vs John Hatmaker Here is what it says about her in the divorce. "that the defendant had wilfully deserted the Complainant without a reasonalbe cause, turned her hout of door and refused and neglected to provide for her as charged, and that he had also committed adultery with one Bettie Wright after his marriage to Complainant and before the filing of this bill as charged," John B. Wright vs Emma Wright dismissed 6 Jan 1893 It was dismissed because Emma Wright failed to appear. Also states she was a non-resident of the state of Tennessee. 3. Bonnie, If you will give me your email address, I may have some info that I don't want to post to this list. Also, is there a divorce record/details for a Bettie Wright or Bettie/Elizabeth Riggs and Neil S. Brown Boshears? It would be around 1900 plus or minus five years? Bob had posted the following for me a few months ago: "Bettie Wright - She is mentioned in the divorce of Tennie Hatmaker vs John Hatmaker, May 24, 1900. Tennie accused John of commiting adultry with Betty Wright." If this is the Bettie Wright I'm thinking of, she was Elizabeth Riggs who'd married Robert James Wright in 1881. I believe they may have divorced (or he died about the end of 1897--he sold to Elizabeth the home and land in Campbell Co. for a dollar in May of 1897) and she married Neil August 21, 1898. However in the 1900 census she's using the name Wright again and no husband found. Family lore said her youngest child, who died of TB at the age of 25 (and was born Nov. 1900!), was a product of either a love affair or rape. *sigh* This family is a hard one to track! 3. Bobbie, I have four Thomas Riggs in my database but no Emma Chapman. The name does seem to ring a bell. Do you have any dates for them. I may have her under a different name. I have a couple of Emily Chapmans. I do have a Thomas Riggs and Nancy J. Chapman, married Dec 22, 1868. And I have a Thomas Riggs, b. about 1848, without a wife but has two daughters; Louisa and Mollie. Louisa married John C. Chapman. Bob, Would you have any info on an Emma Chapman who married Thomas Riggs? Bobbie ==== TNCAMPBE Mailing List ==== To See Previous Posts http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/TNCAMPBE
