    3. Dear Kathy: After Bill was electrocuted at Eddyville, KY, his body was transported back to Williamsburg. We cannot find out where he is buried. Did your granny mention anything about where they buried him, when she attended his funeral? I am still confused about the ages, although the paper could have very well had his age wrong. Thank you so much for all the information, you are great. Elizabeth

    3. Elizabeth, It had to be in the Jellico area because granny has never driven a car. I will look through my files to see if I have any more information. When I talk to granny this week, I will ask her what she remembers. I do remember her saying that they showed him and you could tell he had been electrocuted. She said she had never see anyone" laid out" that looked burnt before. She would have only been 20 years old. 3. Elizabeth, I don't have any more facts on the killing. However, there has been stories in our family that the murder involved a woman. Seems Alf Sharp liked his woman and moonshine. I do know that before his death he was married to Lillian Strunk. Alfred Sharp is buried at Red Cut Cemetery in Elk Valley, Tn. However, Lillian is not buried with him. I believe they were divorced at the time of his death. My step-granny who still lives in Jellico, Tn. remembers going to the funeral of Bill Smiddy. I do know he was related to the Smiddy's around that area. I was at granny's over the weekend and she is not doing very well. Sometimes now, she gets a little confused when you ask her things that happened along time ago. The Scott County website has a picture with a Alfred Sharp. When I showed it to granny a couple of years ago she claims it is the same Alfred Sharp as my g-uncle. Our William "Bill" Smiddy, would have been, liking 2 months, 29 years old in 1933. The article says he was 23. His death certificate states his age in 1941, at the time of his electrocution for murder, as 37years, 3 months, 19 days. That is a big difference in ages between the two Bill Smiddys, and if he were taken to jail in Williamsburg, would they have kept him there for all those years? He was only in the Kentucky State Penitentiary for 9 months and 1 day before they killed him. I am wondering now if this is a different William "Bill" Smiddy. It is strange though, that it happened in the same area in which our Bill Smiddy was born and raised. 3. Hi Susie: While we are on the subject of newspapers, would you happened to have noticed an article about a murder in the Jellico/TN-KY border area, where a William "Bill" Smiddy killed his wife in about 1939 or 1940? He was the son of the Sheriff George Smiddy, who was killed in the line of duty in Jellico in 1926. George was the sheriff on the KY side of Jellico, and I have that article. George's last name is spelled Schmidty, but is really Smiddy. Sheriff George Smiddy's son William "Bill" was killed by legal electrocution at the Kentucky State Penitentiary in Eddyville, KY in 1941. His murdered wife's name was Faye Medders/Meadows Smiddy. They had three children. I would really like to find an article about this, as Bill's father, the above mentioned Sheriff George Smiddy, was our gr.grandfather's brother's son. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
