Do any Campbell County researchers know anything about "S.S. Douglass" Photographer, Jellico, TN? My great aunt has some family photos with this engraved on the photocard, taken approximately 1860s-1880s. I am curious to identify this "S.S." to see which line of Douglass's he came from. We are from the William A.DOUGLASS & Elizabeth BROYLES line. I have some names to speculate, but no proof. Was this "S.S." a close relation and amateur photographer or was he a professional studio and do many Campbell County descendants possess his photos? Kim
The folks who e-mailed you saying the first was a marriage bond and the second was the marriage license are correct. A marriage bond was put in place in the event the man (from the way I understand it) changed his mind. I have seen it where the groom is listed on the bond, so the John Lambert listed may indeed be your groom. The other individual may be the bride's mother, or another relative of the bride. I would also say that "Lizzie Jones" and "Elizabeth Jaynes" are very close indeed. I would most definitely assume they are one and the same person. As for the January 1892 birth of the child and the September 1892 marriage, is it possible that the child was born in January 189"3", a few months after the marriage? If you're going from a census to determine the child's age, that's not always the most accurate criteria. At that time a lady Mrs McReynolds was the record keeper. She even called me and wanted to know if I would be interested in some other people with the same sur-name. She sent me a copy of all their records. I think my family kept that hospital in bussniess during the early 1900s. I have a niece who works there, I'll ask her what the current policy is. Neal, Don't worry... I think my uncle kept them in buisness too... :-) um... when you find out the rules please let us know. :-) Melinda
I would like a copy also. Thanks, Char
