    1. Planning Ahead on Out-of-Town Research Trips
    2. East Tennessee Historical Society
    3. Hello, I wanted to send a friendly reminder to all genealogists who may be planning to make out-of-town research trips in the future. It is always a good idea to call ahead to your planned destination to make sure your trip runs smoothly. Last Friday, a couple arrived in Knoxville eagerly looking forward to researching in the East Tennessee Historical Center. This couple drove 700 miles from Texas and arrived on Friday morning to find the McClung Historical Collection closed for the day! The Knox County Library System (of which the McClung Historical Collection is a part) closes one day a year for a staff training in-service day. As fate would have it, it was the day the researchers from Texas arrived in town. We were all naturally quite upset for them. It was an expensive, but valuable, lesson learned. *ALWAYS* call in advance before visiting an out-of-town research site. In addition to the various national holidays, you never know what local holidays or other events may conspire to change the normal operating schedules of various research sites across the country. On our part, we will try to keep everyone updated of the East Tennessee Historical Center's schedule adjustments through these mailing lists and on our web page at http://www.korrnet.org/eths/ Good luck in all your ancestor hunting. Sincerely, Shane S. Rhyne, Public Relations Coordinator East Tennessee Historical Society P.O.
