I found this in a special edition of the local paper which I've kept. BIG SPRING An area named for the 'Big Spring' near Big Springs Presbyterian Church on the Big Springs road to Friendsville. The spring is the beginning of Gallahar's Creek. The community grew from a settlement of members of the Associate Church, which resulted from the succession of a group from the established Church of Scotland. The church soon was known as 'Seceder' called 'Ceder' in the vernacular. Two groups of the Seceders came to the locality from Upper east Tennessee in 1820. One group settled at the Big Spring area and the other group chose a Pistol Creek location near Big Spring and Morganton Roads. The Big Spring Cemetery dates from 1812, preceding the founding of the church. The church became a Presbyterian Church, USA, about 1900 when the previous establishment ceased to function. A post office called Cliff, operated at Big Spring from 1888 until 1903. Alice Researching FARR,FLINN, LANE and others in Blount Co TN.
