Burns' History of Blount County: "An agreement concerning the Shady Grove property made in December 1839 between Henry Pesterfield, Sr. and the Session of Shady Grove church, viz.: ..... allowed them to use the property including a small pond-spring, for a meeting house and campground for fifty years. So fromthis we can suppose the church had already organized in 1839 since the Session was named... The present Shady Grove church was built 1881. In 1910, H. A. Miser and W. W. Key were already elders.... The church record from 1883 to September 1938 is in the hands of G. L. Miser. There is an active Sunday school here but church has not been active since 1938...." and yes, there's a cemetery... No Pesterfields are listed in compilation by Edith Little. Becky G.
