    3. Shirley, Start with "Tennesseans in the Civil War", a 2-volume work that lists the TN soldiers. I don't know how complete it is on the Confederate side, but I understand the Union side is great. It's a quick way to check, then the next step would be to fill out a form 80 from the National Archives with the information you know about your ancestor. If they find something they will tell you, and it will cost $10 for a portion of the file. If they don't find what you want, it doesn't cost anything.
