    1. [TNBlount] Blount Co. marriage records - where?

    3. In late January I wrote the county clerk of Blount County requesting a copy of a 1810 marriage record. I included the fee that the clerk's office had quoted over the phone. In mid-April they returned my check with a form letter saying that the "historical information" I requested "is not accessible at this office." The letter suggested I contact the Blount County Public Library or the Tennessee Department of Vital Records or the Blount County Historical Society. Has anyone tried to obtain marriage records of this vintage? Where did you find them? I don't want to waste these agencies or groups time with requests that would be inappropriate. Thanks for any advice. Roger Bartlett Austin, Texas

    3. I'm in the Los Angeles area so I can't check on this type of thing. Does anyone in Blount County know why they aren't providing copies of these records? Is this a new policy or what? Personally, I would try the TN Archives instead of Vital Records, Vital Records probably only has records since TN started collecting them as a state in the early 1900's. I know that the information from these records are available elsewhere, records before 1858 are available online and linked from our site. I've often wondered if there was more information than what is available online in the original records ... things like their parents names, bondsmen etc. If anyone knows anything about this, could you please let the list know.
