    3. Cathy, You might find some useful information in "Tennessee Land Grants" by Byron Sistler & Associates 1997. There is a copy in my local library which I can check for you on my next visit. I believe the earliest entries are from the early 1790's, and it does include grants when this area was part of North Carolina. If you find the grants in question in the aforementioned index, you can use that information to get copies of the grants. I can refer you to someone who can get copies of the original land grants from the archives in Nashville for a reasonable fee.
