    3. Matching signatures over 2 generations from SC to Blount Co to Maury Co to Davidson Co to KY to MS to TX was the way I proved my ancestor John McCain and joined DAR in the early 1980s. Luckily they were Presbyterian so they were literate but a mark can usually be unique too. I found signatures on original documents, not the copies in the ledgers, in another man's Rev claim, in another man's estate inventory, in marriage bonds, in those vouchers each heir signs when they get their part of a probate, in witnessing wills, petitions and War of 1812 bounty land file. Ofter time, signatures change so one trick to compare them is to hold them side by side in front of mirror. Or look at them both upside down. That way, you are looking at the strokes & not reading.
