    2. Jessie Blalock
    3. Hello. I am researching George Ashley who was a private in the Civil War regiment 4th TN Cavalry (Union). He stated that he was born abt 1839 in Blount Co. I'd like to look up his family in the 1850 and 1860 censuses, but could find only the Indexes on the Blount Co. website. If someone could give me the page numbers for any Ashleys in the 1850 and 1860 Blount Co census, I would be grateful. (Also, any other info would be appreciated). Thanks Jessie Blalock http://www.clark.net/pub/jcblal/tenn4cav/index.html

    3. Hello, I am searching for information about my great grandmother, Ida Ellis and her parents, N.B. Ellis and Cina Irwin of Maryville, Blount County. I believe they had also had a son named James Ellis. Ida Ellis was born on 25 January 1867. She married William Franklin Roberts of Corryton, Knox County. They had two daughters, Cina Estelle Roberts born on 31 December 1887 and Alice Sarah Roberts born on 26 June 1890. There is no marriage record for Ida Ellis and William F. Roberts in Knox County so I believe they were married in Blount County. I have no other information on N.B. Ellis and Cina Irwin as I got their names from Ida Ellis' death certificate. I think the family may have been Presbyterian because Ida Ellis attended Washington Presbyterian Church when she moved to Corryton after her marriage. If these names sound familiar to anyone I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks so much. Michelle

    3. This is just another hoax and it has been exposed on other lists! Who could be so gullible to believe this. Nice people get "fleeced by such things". Don't waste time and beside that, it CLOGS the "airways" which is what the scammers want. 3. Jean, I have some ORR, McCULLEY and FROW connections in Blount County as well. My gg-grandfather Benjamin Alexander ORR married Eliza Wood McCULLEY 6 May 1850. Eliza was the daughter of John B. McCULLEY Jr. and Eleanor FROW. Benjamin's brother, James K. ORR, married Martha S. McCULLEY 28 Jan 1858. Let me know if any of this connects with your family. 1. Naming traditions
    2. Our ancestors often used the following naming procedure when picking out a name for a new child. This explains why certain names are VERY common in a given family line. Watching for these patterns can help in your genealogy research. This is the way I have it anyway. Shannon 1st son = father's father 2nd son = mother's father 3rd son = father 4th son = father's oldest brother 5th son = father's 2nd oldest brother or mother's oldest brother 1st dau = mother's mother 2nd dau = father's mother 3rd dau = mother 4th dau = mother's oldest sister 5th dau = mother's 2nd oldest sister or father's oldest sister

    1. Naming issue
    2. Eons ago I obtained some information, from where I know not now, but it gave the order that children were named back in the early days, be it tradition, the proper thing to do, or what, I know not, but the first male issue was named, always for say the fathers family, the second for what ever, and the females the same. I can not remember what the order was, but do know that that was always the case. This naming info was for the benefit of genalogist who were trying to determine perhaps the surname of the female spouse or the parents of the male spouse. The surnames of the grandparents was used and the implication was that by reflecting on the middle names of issue it helped locate unknown parents, etc. If anyone has anything that even remotely reflects on this naming process I would like to hear from you.
