I'm looking for information on Lucinda HOOD who supposedly married James CREWS in Buckingham Co. VA in 1784. She supposedly had a brother named Aaron HOOD. Aaron and Lucinda migrated to TN by 1797, settling in the area that became Knox Co. Was the John HOOD who supposedly married Lucy WILSON in 1793 (in Campbell Co. VA) and lived in Buckingham Co. VA a brother of Lucinda and Aaron? I'm wondering if the above HOODs are related to the Albemarle Co. VA HOODs, since Buckingham Co. was created from Albemarle Co. in 1761. Also, James CREWS died in Knox Co. TN in 1841. A John HOOD was a witness to his will. Who was this John HOOD? Some of the CREWS/CRUSE families of Blount Co. TN were probably related to this family. I don't know if I am connected to this HOOD family or not, but it would be nice to know who was who since a few of my HOODs did move from Greene Co.TN to Knox Co. TN. Who knows, they may really be related, even if only distantly. I appreciate any help. Vickie Elam White
I am also interested in any records that may exist for Big Springs Cemetery My husband's ancestor Margaret Johnston SHAW was interred there in 1812 n the churchyard. I have lovely photos of her gravestone, but not the records of the church which may mention her. Regina Roper
I found this in a special edition of the local paper which I've kept. BIG SPRING An area named for the 'Big Spring' near Big Springs Presbyterian Church on the Big Springs road to Friendsville. The spring is the beginning of Gallahar's Creek. The community grew from a settlement of members of the Associate Church, which resulted from the succession of a group from the established Church of Scotland. The church soon was known as 'Seceder' called 'Ceder' in the vernacular. Two groups of the Seceders came to the locality from Upper east Tennessee in 1820. One group settled at the Big Spring area and the other group chose a Pistol Creek location near Big Spring and Morganton Roads. The Big Spring Cemetery dates from 1812, preceding the founding of the church. The church became a Presbyterian Church, USA, about 1900 when the previous establishment ceased to function. A post office called Cliff, operated at Big Spring from 1888 until 1903. Alice Researching FARR,FLINN, LANE and others in Blount Co TN.
