Normally I would agree with you totally. However, if someone is doing something unethical like harvesting info from other websites or lists without permission I think it is something we should all be aware of so we can decide how much, if anything, we will share with that person. I am not taking sides here, I don't know the person who is supposedly doing this. But I am aware of the possibility of a problem now, and I think that is a good thing. Unfortunately, genealogy is not always sweetness and light. Vickie Elam White

Webmaster: Shouldn't you be telling people to keep their arguments to themselves and not to the list? ************************************ Time to stop the cat fight ladies, at least over the Internet, and quit clogging our mailboxes - take it outside! ************************ I agree about the arguing and cluttering our mail boxes , but then at the same time I was quite glad to be made aware of the situation, since I am working some 20 names in the Cove area mentioned, and I fell that if anyone exploits anothers material for their own "recognition" they should be exposed and made to suffer the consequence. ln
Good Morning Hester, I would be willing to bet money that Chrysty does not have permission to use any of the pictures she has posted or the thousands of names/files she has incorporated into her webpages. I know for a fact that she does not have permission to use the family information she copied from my family history. Everyone should be aware that Chrysty does and apparently will continue to harvest information from what ever source she can get it. Even then she is not careful to keep out her own mistakes when transcribing. It is a hisrorical fact that no one has anything to do with chrysty for very long. She has the gall to claim copyrite to the information she has posted. Jay S. Chrysty I looked over your files and I am amazed that with all the thousands of names you have, I found none of my Sevier or Blount Co. TN ancestors there. Cades Cove is not, nor has it ever been in Sevier County. It is in Blount County. I was also wondering if you obtained permission from Professor Dunn to use the photographs from his book, "Cades Cove, the Life and Death of a Southern Appalachian Community"? hj

Hi, Thanks for answering my quiery. The reason I posted it is that I am researching the Cox line in Blount County. No one has ever been able to find the wife of Henry Cox. I'll give a hopefully brief overview: Henry Cox/Cocke b. VA mid 1700's m. wife #1 ____ CURD abt 1762 Henrico Co or Charlotte Co. VA. They had a son CURD COX b. 1762 Charlotte Co.,VA. We think the mother may of died either in childbirth or very soon after for Curd when interviewed could not remember anything about his mother. Henry Cox/Cocke wife #2 Ann Madison 1773 Charlotte Co.VA. They migrated to Blount County in the early 1790's. I am inquiring about Charles because he was mentioned in the probate thinking he may of been related to the first wife of Henry Cox/Cocke. You can get a copy from our web page at http://www.coxcousins.freeservers.com just cut and paste or download it. >From you decendency chart there is also mentioned Patsy Cox. I found this tonight at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~george/johnsgermnotes/germhis3.html Here's part of what I found regarding the MOYERS/MYERS, the original spelling of MIER, MAYER from MAJOR, Ulm, GERMANY, immigrating to VA. (I know this is the line I've studied at the Enoch Pratt Research Library in Balto., MD). I have 2 lines of MOYERS, MYERS. My MOYERS changed their spelling to MYERS abt the turn of the century, not to be confused w/my MYERS side - totally different. r.65: Continuing with the Volck, Utz, Majer families who have an appearance in Hüffenhardt, the name Volck in Germany was transcribed in Virginia by John Huffman as Folg. Probably John's wife and mother-in-law could not write and so may have been uninformed on the spelling. John Huffman's spelling is reasonable; it sounds almost the same. In Germany, the letter "j" was a vowell and was used almost interchangeably with the letter "i" or "y". Thus the name Majer might have been spelled by some as Maier or as Mayer. And it would not be difficult to believe that it might be spelled as Moyer in Virginia. It is interesting that the Moyer family had land in Virginia that was close to the Utz and the Huffman tracts. Therefore much interest has been expressed in the origins of Anna Barbara Majer whose father was Hans Majer of "Wolfartweyher". Though several villages might have this variation of spelling, research has been unsucessful in finding Hans Majer. Another family in Virginia that seems linked to the origins of Hans Majer and his family is the Balthasar Blankenbaker family. Bathasar was a sponsor at the baptism of all twelve children of John and Mary Sabina Huffman which indicates that perhaps his wife was also a member of the Majer family. The parents of Johann Michael Volck are known; they are Michael Volck and Margaretha Albrect. The grandfathers of Johann Michael Volck are also known; they are Martin Volck and Hans Georg Albrect. The marriage of Michael Volck and Margaretha Albrect took place in Hüffenhardt on 18 Nov 1656. The births of nine children are recorded at Hüffenhardt: Hans Diether, 30 Oct 1657; Hans Martin, 29 Jan 1660; Hans Jerg, 30 Nov 1661; Hans Michael (the father of the immigrant, Mary Sabina), 29 Jan 1663; Georg Dieterich, 3 Sept 1666; Maria Margareta, 23 Feb 1669; Anna Margareta, 30 Nov 1670; Maria Christian, 27 Jan 1679; Maria Barbara, 12 Aug 1680. The father of Johann Georg Utz was Michael Utz who is identified with "Haundorff". This seems to be located to the east where several Utz family members have been located; however, due to a lack of records, no positive identifications have been made. (At some future time, I will recap the movements of several of the Germanna people from the "east".) [In the 1700's, there was a poet from this region by the name of Utz. He was so well thought of that his works were reprinted a hundred years later.] The death of the sons of George and Barbara Utz, namely, Ferdinand and John, may have occurred at a late date. In the 1739 tithables, George Utz is charged with three which we presume to be the father and two sons. The two sons might have been Ferdinand and John or it might have been one of these and Michael who was born in Virginia. In 1739, Ferdinand would have been 24 and John would have been 23 so it is possible that they left heirs. However, no evidence is known to support the idea.
