    1. [TNBlount] 1851 Blount Co. marriage - Barker/Hudson
    2. Mike & Charlotte
    3. Can anyone help me speculate why I can't find the marriage registry of my ancestors? I live too far away to do actual research myself in Blount Co. ... but I have checked with every lookup volunteer I can think of and checked several index sources. All other information handed down about this couple has proved to be accurate ... so I would think that their marriage information would be truthful also. John Barker arrived from England in 1850 (too late to be counted in the census) and began working at a cotton mill in Abrams Creek. Family records indicate that John married Martha Ann Hudson in 1851 after meeting her at a Presbyterian church in Rockford, TN. In 1860 John, Martha Ann and their three daughters are listed in the census at Rockford. In 1860 Martha Ann's family is listed in Monroe Co. near Citico. I checked marriage records in Monroe Co. and did not find them there either. Is there a possibility that the Presbyterian church is still in existence and that records of an 1851 marriage could still be there? Are there certain records known to be missing in that area and in that era? Can someone speculate with me why I can't find a record of their marriage? ... or maybe even tell my why I have such a personal NEED to find this record! I already know WHO they are ... I don't know why I have let this marriage record become so important to me. (maybe just because its a puzzle that needs to be solved!) ...Charlotte 1860 Blount County, Tn. 2. Ruth Pepin
    3. Hi folks, Since I posted the info about how to get interlibrary loans from TSLA, I can't get the records I've requested lately. Looks like I shot myself in the foot - the microfilm on wills is checked out and the one on estates/settlements is at my local library but for another patron. Maybe the people that have requested these are on this list and will do lookups.... Glad that you are taking advantage of the system! Ruth

    1. [TNBlount] Bastardy Bonds
    2. Someone inquired about Bastardy Bonds at one time. I don't know if Blount County had them but I have found them in Jackson County, NC. A woman who was pregnant and unmarried had to go before the court and name the father. The father then was called into court and made to agree to support the unborn child if he could be judged to be the actual father. This was so the county would not have to support the child. Don't know if this helps but it is interesting. Doris

    1. [TNBlount] PBS series and book
    2. Hester Janisch
    3. Several months ago it was announced in the Rootsweb Newsletter that PBS was doing another ancestor series and there was a call for story submissions. Later, a companion book to the series was announced and another call for story submissions to include in the book. I was submitted a story and was fortunate that it was selected for the book. The author who compiled the stories has set up a web page and I was honored that my story was chosen as the first Feature Story of the Month, not because it was any better than any of the other wonderful stories in the book, but because it fit well with the theme of the web page--"multi-purpose genealogical site designed to reunite stray ancestral photos (and other memorabilia) with their families of origin." My story is about my Uncle Luke Quiett who was born, lived and died in Blount County and a wonderful happenstance that was brought about by his picture collection. Please visit Megan's page to read the story and find out more about the book and series. http://www.honoringourancestors.com/insearch.html#feature Hester Janisch

    1. [TNBlount] THANKS for the addresses
    2. Thanks to everyone who responded for my query on the library addresses. This list is really the greatest!! I needed the addresses, because last June, my Snider cousins all met for the 2nd Snider Heritage Reunion at Sweetwater, TN. My cousin, Jenne Long has put together a reunion scrapbook, with minimal help from me, and it includes a lot of family information. We are going to send a copy to each of the libraries for their reference files. Thanks again! Mike Snider
