I am sending this message in the hopes that someone, somewhere might have some additional information on my grandfather and father. My biological grandfather and father came from Tennessee. I have little information on the Tennessee roots. My father's name was James; he had a brother Clarence and a sister Alta. Based on newspaper information, Clarence and James "grew up in the eastern part of Jasper County (Indiana) and were well known about Francesville and Medaryville." "They were born in Tennessee, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Herndon. The family, including the two sons and a daughter, moved to Jasper county when the children were small. The mother died and the two sons were taken in to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Yeppe Hansen (Martha Hunter),living west of Francesville." The boys went to high school in Rensselaer, and graduated in 1923 and 1924. James was born in 1905, Alta was born in 1907 and Clarence was born in 1903. The girl, Alta, was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Rathfon of Medaryville and she later married Paul Sheets and lived in Chicago. Clarence was married to Iris Comer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Comer of Rensselaer. Clarence and my dad were in a private plane crash in Lake County, near Schererville, in August, 1931. They were on their way to their farm in Fulton County. Clarence was killed, my dad seriously injured. Martha F. (Hunter)Hansen died April 9, 1963, at Ruff Nursing Home in Knox, Indiana. Yeppe Hansen, her husband, died August 30, 1930. They had a farm in Gillam Township. Mrs. Hansen was born August 6, 1869 at Danvers, Illinois to James and Esther Jane (Cowan) Hunter, at Danvers, Illinois. She married Yeppe Hansen on December 21, 1893 at Gibson City, Illinois. I am trying to trace my Tennessee connection and am having trouble finding my biological family roots in Tennessee, through my Herndon line.
