HI Nell & Jean and others interested: The Tenn River bends around into ALABAMA not Arkansas and runs north across TN. Benton is on the west bank of the river across from Humphrys co , Houston Co, and Stewart co,Henry is north ,Carroll co west and Decatur co and Henderson Co is to its south. These countys all have related anscesters to each other as they married across county lines and bought, traded, and sold land between them.gabbie At 01:24 PM 2/8/2000 EST, you wrote: >Nell: > > Benton County, TN is on the west side of the Tennessee River after it >bends around into Arkansas & up into TN - Humphreys County is directly across >the river from Benton to the East, Henry County to the North, Carroll to the >West, and Decatur to the South. > > Hope this is helpful. Doris, Thanks for the information. I am having such an awful tracing down the Moores in my family. Any information is appreciated. If you find out anything else, please keep me in mind. Bye the way, I think these Tennessee people are just great. So polite and caring. I'm a Texan, but would be proud to know that my ancesters are from Tennessee. Thanks, Wilma
Wilma & Betsy, Thought I'd add some to the Moore's. The George Moore at the bottom of the list is: George Moore b.abt.1806VA (note 1850p.118) Mary ? b.1808TN (wife) died bet.1850-1860. children: Claiburn b.1833, Ala. Martha b.1835, KY Nancy Jane b.1837 KY(later married James Arnold & Paton S. Lashlee) John b.1841(twin)KY William b.1841 (twin)KY Eliza E. b.1844KY (married Wm. Riley Arnold) Sarena b.1845, KY George Jr. b.1846,KY James b.1847.TN This family later moved back to KY. I found them in a census in KY. Except Nancy & Eliza who married Benton County men & stayed here. Also the Covey Moore listed in census above was the illeg. dau. of Nancy Moore & James Arnold(before they married & before his first wife died, after they married she was raised as an Arnold.) Hope this helps some. Doris in Benton County BFB1957@aol.com wrote: > Wilma: I will list all the Moore's in 1870 for you. If any are within > neighbor distance, I will note that. Hi Betsy, Please check the 1860 census for any WHITE families. My great grandmother was MARY ELIZABETH WHITE born 28 Nov 1854. She had a younger brother DREW and there were other children. They should also be in the 1870 Census. I would be very grateful for the information on the WHITE families. Their parents were JOEL MADISON WHITE born in 1828 and ROSANNA GORDON born in 1836. Both Joel and Rosanna died in 1883 and I have not been able to find the parents of either of them. Would you please check for GORDON family in both Census. Thanks so very much. Norma in Florida Norslim@aol.com
Hi Betsy, In my last message I forgot to ask about finding these names in the cemetery books: WHITE, GORDON, DEPRIEST, and ANDREW. Thanks so much. Norma Norslim@aol.com
Where in Tenn is Benton County?? Thank you. Nell
Betsy, This is much more than I had hoped for. At least it gives me a start. I'm desperately trying to find Benjamine's father George and mother Martha. I have no idea what Martha's maiden name was, just that she was born in NC and George was born in Tn. I have no information on siblings, so maybe some of these people were his brothers or sisters. Thank you again and God bless, Wilma

You are welcome. Betsy
you are very welcome. Betsy
Betsy, Could I bother you one more time? Is there any way you can check on Moores there were living next door to Benjamine during that time. I have reason to beleive there were several households of Moores at that time, and would like to check into possible family connections. This would be 1860-70 census. Thank you again, Wilma
Nell: Benton County, TN is on the west side of the Tennessee River after it bends around into Arkansas & up into TN - Humphreys County is directly across the river from Benton to the East, Henry County to the North, Carroll to the West, and Decatur to the South. Hope this is helpful. There will probably be others on the list who can tell you in more detail exactly where these counties are. Jean S. Thank you, I'm sure that's my family. I knew Benjamine was in the census, but lost my information about the other people in the household.

Julie: I'm sorry, but they are not listed in 1870. Betsy
Betsy: I'm looking for information on the younger children of Barnaby Beasley, who died in March of 1868. Would you please look in the 1870 Benton County Census for a David H. Beasley, age abt 34, wife Mary Ann, should have a child William T. as well. Also, is there a John T. Beasley, age abt 28, wife perhaps Sarah or Sarah Ann; or a George Beasley, abt 10 years, or a Barney, abt 8 years? Don't know who the latter two would be living with. Appreciate anything you may find on the Beasley family. Thanks. Jean Stringham
Jackie: You can obtain land deeds from the County Court House. Have you visited the Benton County USGENWEB site? It is wonderful - Allison Colignon is doing a great job on it and it gives addresses and information on a lot of Benton County services. Good Luck! Jean S.
