    1. [TNBENTON] DCH2000
    2. I want to personally thank everyone who participated in Danville Crossing's Homecoming 2000. I think it was a lot of fun and overall, a success. Everyone loooked so " spiffy" in the teeshirts with the logo our Jan designed, and all seemed to have found at least one new cousin or some bit of information they hadn't known before. Special thanks to jan for soldering on in the face of awful things happening around her, and to Linda, our on-site person without whom we really would not have been able to pull it off, and to Tim and if COURSE to Cher who was our guide and inspiration even when she was otherwise occupied. She was never far from our minds and hearts and the Reunion the held almost all on her own last year , was our base for being able to hold it again this year. The Silent Auction was very successful , with people buying souvineniers for themselves and family members, and quite a variety of talents were displayed in the items donated for the sale., and MUCH appreciated! I am home from what ended up over a 3,000mile-9-day trip, have been up since yesterday morning, so I am unpacking and packing ME into the bed! See you all when i am a little more rested-up! Cacky

    3. It was announced today that Rootsweb has merged with Ancestry. You can read about this at http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/merge.html I ask that you do not use the list to discuss this .I thought you needed to hear it from the listowner. I trust Rootsweb to keep their word that nothing will change and that doing genealogy will remain free . Rootsweb has a help desk at : http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help.cgi if you have questions or problems with this announcement. I'm going to wait and see and trust. 3. Barrow, Cook, Futrell, Compton, Rushing. I have a few questions right off - Does anyone know where I can get copies of any of the genealogical histories of these families??? I think there was a book done for the Cook/Barrow families and possibly the Comptons. And, can anyone tell me about the Hannah Rushing's family - I understand she might have been Cherokee Indian, and want to know more about this. Thanks! ~ Mary

    1. [TNBENTON] t-shirts and shorts
    2. WE had to order another dozen Danville Crossing Homecoming teeshirts to fill the orders we had, so there are some still available. Unless someone e-mail me to mail-order them one, I will bring them to the homecoming . Also, I have been looking ALL OVER for shorts to match mine, and had about given up hope when I found them in the Men's department of the Big K-Mart here. They are Franklin brand, sell for $7.99 a pair, and are made of cotton knit and have side-seam pockets. I got Jimmy and me a pair ( Jill already has dk green jeans shorts)... so we are all set for the Homecoming! I thought some of you might be looking for them, too, so here's the tip where I found them. 1. [TNBENTON] The nitty gritty
    2. Well, folks, we are getting down to the Nitty-Gritty on the plans for Danville Crossing Homecoming 2000! I hope all of you who are planning to come have mailed in your checks for the $10 for the 3 days ( or $5 a day if only able to join us for one day...but please DO come if you can even for just a day!) Everyone wanting to come to the fishfry will need to have mailed in $13.50 each ( over age 3) for it so I can let the lodge know in advance just how many to prepare for. If you haven't, get out your checkbook now, because it takes a few days.,.(. longer than I would have wanted it to, for sure,) for mail to get all the way to my little corner of the country, and I need to have all the checks deposited before I leave town next Friday ( 16th). Also, whether you are going to be at the Homecoming or not, if you want a teeshirt with our Danville Crossing logo on it, I need your order ASAP. In fact, if you haven't already, I will need you to e-mail me how many and what size now, and follow up with the check for $14 each ( and another $$3.20 if you need it mailed to you), so I can get more made if we need to. Right now there are 5 left, none in XL, BUT I can get them made in a couple of days' notice if it looks like we will need them.. but will have to get them by the dozen. I mailed 20 shirts off this morning and have 9 more ready to go tomorrow... If you sent your check and I received it, yours is on the way, or in the box to bring to the homecoming. A few checks have not come for ones people have requested, and they are set aside already with your names on them. I figure the checks will come this week. I sure don't want anyone to miss out! 1. [TNBENTON] Danville Crossing Homecoming 2000... countdown!
    2. Ok folks, we are down to the countdown for the Homecoming, and I do hope it is as spectacular a success as last year's was, and everyone meets at least one new cousin, finds at least one ancestor and goes home with memories to last all year! Jan has arranged for such interesting programs that I believe the trip would be worth it, just for them. I have to have an exact head-count for the fishfry before I leave here on the 16th, so if any of you have not signed up and paid the $13.50, please do so ASAP! I also need the last of the $10 memberships for the 3 day event ( or $5 if you can only come for one day...) so we can have all the checks in the bank before we try paying our bills out of it. ;-) I will be phoning the tee-shirt printer as soon as I have all your orders in, by size; so if you want an original Danville Crossing shirt ( natural with our logo on it in dark green) , and have not e-mailed me, please do so NOW . I have requests for 44 so far. I am afraid if I wait until all the checks come, we might not get the shirts done in plenty of time, and they do not order the shirts to print until I tell him how many of what size. So e-mail me who you are , how many you want and what size, and then follow up with your check, please.( regular sizes $14 ea/ 1, 2, and 3X sizes $16) I will bring them to the homecoming for you who will be there. Anyone wanting one and not able to attend, I will mail your shirts by Priority mail, for an additional $3.25.(what it costs me).I will send them before I leave for Tennessee.( that would cover up to 3, a dollar more for the 4th one) Plans are in the works to have an " official" Photographer, and pictures of the Homecoming will be put on our site as soon as they are processed and the people are back home to do it. We are still working on whether a video or a scrapbook will be possible; will let you know. Anyone have any other questions I haven't answered here? Our P O Box for sending in registration, dinner money or teeshirt orders is: Danville Crossing Homecoming 2000 PO Box 47047 Jacksonville FL 32247-7047 and checks should be made out to Danville Crossing or Danville Crossing Homecoming 2000.. 1. [TNBENTON] t shirts
    2. It dawned on us a while back that in making these teeshirts for the Danville Crossing Homecoming 2000 that we ought not put a date on them , so people who are a part of our Danville Crossing list but who are not able to come to the Homecoming might want one too. I have not recieved any orders from you all who can't come, so thought I ought to make this offer clear. They are GROUP shirts, as opposed to EVENT shirts. They are beige ( natural) and have the Danville Crossing Logo on the front in hunter green,. The logo is lovely..thanks to our artist-in-residence Jan, and her major struggles with the post office to successfully get a copy of it to me... It is a big old tree firmly rooted on the outline of Tennessee, and has " Danville Crossing: Sheltering the Roots of Tennessee" written across the state. So far I have 22 orders. The printer is making the screen now, and I will call in the number in each size the end of next week, so they will be finished in time. They will make them for us in child sizes, Xs(2-4) S(6-8), M (10-12) and Lg ( 24-16) and in adult S, M , L and XL, for $14 each, and the sizes IX, 2X, 3X and 4X are $16. sent the check and size information and your address to Danville Crossing homecoming 2000 PO Box 47047 Jacksonville FL 32247-7047 and include what you think postage would be, so I can mail it to you.. ( Priority mail in a small box is only $3.25,parcel post in an envelope might be a little less, but not as secure , but my experience is most parcel post is within a nickel of Priority anyway). We do NOT want anyone wanting a shirt to think they can only get it by coming to the Homecoming! I will deliver the ones to the people who are going to be there, but this is something we all might want to have.. Work schedules, school reunions, new babies, the sheer miles, budget restraints, ..any number of things can keep you from being able to attend the Homecoming this year , but if you want a teeshirt, just let me know! 1. [TNBENTON] More
    2. I received 3 more people's money and enrollment today, so add Mrs Robert Rock Vicki Payne and Betsy Farrar to the list Also, since kids sizes and adult sizes have the same names,( S-M-L ) etc, please tell me if it is a child size you are ordering or I will assume adult's. I know an XS is a child and a 3X is an adult, but need to be really sure on those same-name size ones. Thanks Cacky

    1. [TNBENTON] One month
    2. Today is the 22nd of May. This may not come as news to anyone,... BUT, a month from today we will be gathering at Paris Landing State Park at the Lodge, signing in, picking up packets of information about the various counties, our teeshirts, and reuniting and splitting up to go to the courthouses, libraries and cemeteries. I want to remind you all if you haven't already, to send in your checks and enrollment information so we will be all set to go! Linda needs surnames, and counties you are researching in, to know which counties to make a pack of information for you on, and is compiling a master surname list. I am forwarding that on to her, as I get information on the the enrollment forms. So, we will need: your name__________________________________________________________ screenname_______________________________ address_______________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ phone number (__________)_____________________________ counties you are researching _____________________________________________ surnames in those counties______________________________________________ and $10 for the 3 day event ( or $5 a day if you can only come for a day) plus $13.50 ( tax and tip included) for the fishfry " shindig" Saturday night and another $14 each for a teeshirt, and tell me what size ( S-M-LG-XL are $14, 1X ,2X, and 3X are $2 more), and we can have them made for the kids at the same adult price, in XS (2-4), S (4-6), M (8-10) L ( 12-14). Please print his form and send it and a check for the appropriaite amount to: Danville Crossing Homecoming 2000 P O Box 47047 Jacksonville Fla 32247-7047. We have to have the dinner prepaid, so everyone needs to sign up ( and pay up) in advance. The absolute latest for this would be postmarking June 12th so I have it before I leave her on the 16th. The t-shirts need to me ordered ASAP. I will round the number up to the next dozen and have a few at DCH that are not ordered in advance, BUT they might not be the right size if we don't know what you need... so order as soon as you can and be SURE to get yours! The games and workshops and fun-stuff are coming together, and I will be posting a quiz in the next few days that is an " open book test" for you to do between now and the Homecoming, with prizes then for the most right answers! So far I have heard from the following, ( if you have sent yours more than 5 days ago and are not on this list, e-mail me, please) Catherine Cline Bill Gleaves Ida deal Gene Walker Sue Buchannan Ronda Mrozek Lee Hoover Jean Hancock & Dell Pierce Linda Hughes Monette Littleton Grant Morgan Davidson Teddy Russell Susannah Ash Jean Clark Betty Morris Carolyn Nelson Mary Russell Jamie Weatherly Mary Carol Roach Dana Powell The mail to here takes forever.. no real reason, just ask Jan! Anything sent after Wed of last week will probably arrive today or tomorrow! Cacky

    3. I have just returned from a trip to Arkansas. One of the highlights of the entire trip was finding and photographing the grave sites of My Great Grand Parents. ABLE R. JACKSON & MARTHA ANN MOSS JACKSON They lived in Benton and also in Humphreys County until after 1870 and then moved down into White County Arkansas to a town called Romance. It would be interesting to find out if any of you had ancestors who also went to White County Ar. about that time. Mary Harkey Russell bird@scrtc.com
